The Holy Spirit
Rom. 14:17 (KJV) “For the kingdom of God is not meat and drink; but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost”.
This Scripture gives us a clue into the source of joy. There are people that cannot get excited unless they take a substance. But after the substance wears out, they are back to being sober and sorrowful. But you and I have the Holy Ghost constantly with us so we are on a constant high.
God says to us in Eph. 5:18 “Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit”. Why does the Lord compare the Holy Spirit with wine? It is because wine intoxicates. But guess what? The Holy Spirit also intoxicates. However, the difference is that there will be no hangover because it is an everlasting tipsiness. Do not try to fill your life with a substance in pursuit of happiness. As long as it is not of God, whatever you try to fill your life with, will not take you closer to God. Instead, seek to fill your life with the Holy Spirit and cut off every other thing that leaves you hung over and wondering why you did what you did.
I had a pastor that used to drink a lot before he got saved and it had completely condemned his liver. He got saved and would still show up for vigils drunk. And he would say the Bible says I would rather you be filled with the Holy Spirit than with wine. The Bible did not say pick one; rather means wine is not bad but the Holy Spirit is better. That was until he heard a message like this. One day he slumped and the medical report was that because of how much he used to drink, the only way to stop was to do it gradually or he would die.
So he went to God with the medical report and God’s Word. God told him he would not die and God filled him with the Holy Spirit. Even though his fridge was still filled with alcohol, he had completely lost the desire for it. Over twenty years ago he was told he had a few years to live but he is still alive till this day. What the doctors said was probably right but the Holy Spirit is supernatural. And the Supernatural does not have to follow any natural law. God must have given him a new liver.
Prayer: Heavenly Father, fill me to the overflowing with the Holy Spirit, in Jesus Name. Amen!
