Sons Not Orphans
Gen.2: 19 “So the Lord God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a name for each one.”
We work because work is God’s idea. People like to paint a picture of paradise as a place where people are just sitting around, eating everything but not working. Remember the Garden of Eden? The Garden of Eden was a type of paradise and God said to Adam, “work!” Take note that God gave Adam work before He gave Adam a woman. Work came before woman and I will explain what I mean so you do not get me wrong. If you are a single man, you need to sort out your work first before you think about marriage. All those girls that are telling you how handsome you are, are just deceiving you. First, go and find work!
Work is not a curse. Work is a blessing. I want you to say it aloud and personalize it, “my work is not a curse. My work is a blessing”. Man is created in the image of God and God is a worker and I will show you how I know this. Jesus speaking in John 5:17 says, “My Father is always at his work to this very day, and I too am working“ [with emphasis]. God did not stop working after creating the heavens and the earth. Jesus tells us that God is at work till this very day! And because the Father is working, Jesus says, “…I too am working.” Jesus did not say that because the Father is always at work then He must relax.
We are not orphans. It is truly alarming how many people are spending hours wishing for less work and it is because they have gotten it twisted. People think that a life that is void of work is what God wants us to live. But on the contrary God wants us to continually produce until we see Him. I do not want you to miss what is key so I will repeat it. Perhaps when we get to heaven, we will rest; but right now, we are to engage and we are to work because that is what God wants for us.
Tim Keller says, “A Christian is one who stops working to be saved, not one who stops working!” Unfortunately, this truth is often reversed; people continue working to be saved and stop working. You can do nothing in your strength to get saved. Jesus has completed the work on The Cross of Calvary. But many people think they can add to what Jesus did.
Prayer: Father, I acknowledge that You are always at Your work to this day and I too will do the work that You have called me to do for Your glory, in Jesus Name. Amen!
