Rom. 8:²⁸ “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.”

We will start today’s devotional with our final thought from yesterday which is, Jesus is above all – no exceptions. Jesus is superior to all. John 5:^21-23 “For just as the Father gives life to those he raises from the dead, so the Son gives life to anyone he wants. In addition, the Father judges no one. Instead, he has given the Son absolute authority to judge, so that everyone will honour the Son, just as they honour the Father. Anyone who does not honour the Son is certainly not honouring the Father who sent him.” (emphasis added). What Jesus was saying in essence is; the Father does not bother with judgement – I am going to judge. The life does not come from the Father, He said I should give life and I will give it to anybody I choose. So, you better be my friend.

Even after making such a huge statement, Jesus says in John 5:³⁰ “I can of Myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and My judgment is righteous, because I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” (emphasis added). Meaning even though He has the liberty to choose, to decide, and to make things happen, He defers to the Father. This scripture also highlights the two keys to accurate discernment and judgement. The first key to accurate discernment and judgement in any situation is as I hear I judge. Do not judge things on surface level, wait on the Holy Spirit. What is God saying? You have a business deal before you, everything is looking rosy. Before you put pen to paper, pause, stop, get back into your closet. What is the Holy Spirit saying?

“As I hear, I judge…”; there are certain things that, maybe investments, everybody is talking about and all sorts. And the Holy Spirit will say to me, ‘That is where you are going to invest.’ So, I invest and in twelve months, I get eight hundred percent [800%] increase. Which investment gives you eight hundred percent [800%] increase if God has not sent you? Then He says, ‘Okay, it is time to pull out’, and I pull out. Then He points me to another one. When people come to you with one story, if you do not listen to God you will have reached conclusions that can cause trouble, particularly in the community. It has to be “As I hear, I judge…”.

The second key to accurate discernment and judgement in any situation is, “I do not seek My own will but the will of the Father who sent Me.” Even as I am making my judgement, I am not about my own will. I am seeking only the will of the Father who has sent me. Even if you are going to make a wrong decision, because your heart is right, and you are not interested in building your own kingdom. And because you are not interested in doing your own thing; all you want is to glorify God. Because your heart is right, God will make it right. That is how it works! But a lot of people have a wrong heart; everything is to jostle for power and for position, to position themselves for favour. Promotion does not come from the east or the west, but from God.

Prayer: Father, I ask for the grace to walk in the light of that which You have revealed to me today by Your Spirit – to defer to You and prioritize You, in Jesus Name. Amen!
