To Know
John 16:8-11 “And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: of sin, because they do not believe in Me; of righteousness, because I go to My Father and you see Me no more; of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.” (NKJV]
As they stood there, at the cross jeering and laughing at Jesus, the Jews could never have imagined three things. Firstly, that the atonement of the world’s sin, including their own, was on Jesus. Like we said yesterday, Jesus took care of all our sins on the cross – past, present, and future. When Jesus paid the price on the cross, all our sins were future sins and Jesus paid for it all! I have, by the grace of God studied this truth, and this is what Jesus said Himself. Nobody put a gun to His head when He said it, it is finished, paid in full. Past forgiven, purpose for living, home in heaven – Jesus is alive. So why should I doctor it to put people in bondage? Never.
As they stood there, jeering at Jesus, the Jews could never have imagined that the basis of being in right standing with God, being in right relationship with the Father [righteousness], was hanging on that cross. They could never have imagined that they can never have a right relationship with God outside of Jesus. And the third is that the actual judgement of the ruler of the world was being performed. The One who was slain before the foundation of the earth was now being slain, and Jesus was putting a nail to the coffin. Have you ever heard the term, defeated for? That is satan. Some said, ‘Pastor, do not talk like that, what if satan hears?’ Another person said, ‘I do not want any trouble; I do not want satan to start hating me.’ Satan hates you already, if he could kill you, you would have been dead by now. But all power belongs to Jesus; you are alive because the devil cannot kill you and you will remain alive in the Name of Jesus.
The three things were derived from John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.” It is important to mention that we are all on different phases in our journey and our walk with God. So, even right now, God is speaking to everyone about different areas. I want to encourage you to commit to working on and strengthening those areas God is pointing out to you. I also want to encourage you to share this light, these truths with as many people as possible. Somebody out there needs to be encouraged. Somebody out there needs to hold on to and not abandon their faith. God is depending on you and me to reach them.
John 16:12-15 [please read]. Jesus is saying to you and me here that the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth. There are some things Jesus could tell the disciples, but He says, ‘When the Holy Spirit comes, He will tell them.’ Those are things that nobody on earth possibly knew, but God. Jesus is saying that the Holy Spirit will tell you things that are not in any book on earth. The Holy Spirit will give you directions that are not written anywhere. By God’s grace, there are things I did not learn from any book. I have loads and loads of books and materials. I am always reading, but there are things that God taught me Himself.
Prayer: Jesus, I am grateful for Your Spirit and Your life, in Jesus Name. Amen!
