Pneuma

John 14:16-17 “The Father will give you another HELPER who will be with you forever! That Helper is the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it doesn’t see or know him. But you know him, because he lives with you and will be in you.” (GW, emphasis added).

The word ‘another’, highlighted in today’s anchor scripture means, another of the same kind, of the same quality. So, we have a life guide in the person of the Holy Spirit. What makes the Holy Spirit incomparable to any city guide is that most city guides were born in the city, learnt about the city, and experienced the city before they became experts on that city. But the Holy Spirit made the city, He is the architect of the city, He is the one who laid the foundations. He is the one that created you and I, and the whole world. There is a path that the birds of the air do not know, the Holy Spirit knows that path.

Why do some people say, Holy Ghost and some say, Holy Spirit, what is the difference? When the first English version of the Bible was being translated, the King James Version of the Bible, two teams were working on it. The first team translated a part of the Bible, and the other translated the other part. One team chose the term Ghost hence “Holy Ghost”, and the other chose Spirit hence “Holy Spirit”. They were translating the same word Pneuma in the original and it means “Breath”, “Air”. The Holy Spirit is the breath of God.

So, how does the Holy Spirit help me daily? In what ways does the Holy Spirit want to help you? If you listen to the Holy Spirit, if you let Him be your guide, the Holy Spirit will help you to Know What You Need To Know. There are a lot of things you do not need to know. Unfortunately, we worry ourselves with so many things we really do not need to know. The Holy Spirit will help us know the things we need to know. John 16:13When the Spirit of Truth comes, he will lead you into all Truth.” (NCV, emphasis added). Some people say they do not know when the Holy Spirit is speaking to them. Listen, if you are a child of God, the Holy Spirit speaks to you. For some, even though they know, they still second guess themselves.

Have you ever had a verse of the Bible just jump out at you, and it speaks to your situation? That is the Holy Spirit helping you to know what you need to know. Sometimes, it is a situation that is about to confront you. You may be in your personal devotion, or church, or your life group, and a particular scripture that was shared just keeps burning in your heart. Then you encounter a situation, and the scripture comes up. And then you know it was the Holy Spirit preparing you for the situation. The Holy Spirit helps us Know What We Need To Know.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please help me know what I need to know to fulfil the great destiny God has for me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
