Grow & Contribute
Hebrews 5:12 “By now you should be teachers. Instead, you still need someone to teach you…!” (GW, emphasis added).
You can grow old, without growing up. There are a lot of people who have grown old, but they have not grown up. They are saved, but they are shallow. As you grow old physically and in Christ, God wants you to grow up. You have to be a life learner; you have to be a disciple. Growth comes by learning and in God’s Favourite House we have several platforms set up for learning and growth. Have you seen people who just grow old, but do not grow up? Some are fully developed, even with grey hair but they have not grown up. God wants us not only to grow old but to grow up.
In which area of your spiritual life do you need to grow most this year? For some, it is in faith – trusting God with your life and obeying Him instantly regardless of how it sounds. For some, you are headed in one direction and God is speaking to you to make a U-turn. Yet for some, you need to grow in studying your Bible. And for some, it is in witnessing – telling others about Jesus. So, I ask again, what area does God want you to grow this year? Identify the area and tackle it. Hebrews 5:12 “By now you should be teachers…” (GW, emphasis added).
#4: God Wants Me To Contribute Something Back: God actually wants me not only to Centre My Life Around Him, To Learn To Love His Family (fellowship), and Cultivate Spiritual Maturity (grow in discipleship). God wants me to contribute something back, to give back. 1Peter 4:10 “God has given each of you some special abilities; be sure to use them to help each other…” (LB, emphasis added). You will notice that God did not say be sure to use the special abilities to make a lot of money. Ministry and service are about helping people, not about fleecing people. It is about helping people, not about making money. God wants us to use our spiritual gifts to help others.
I know that there are marketplace gifts that you can use to make money. If you are a software programmer, an engineer, or a consultant, those are marketplace gifts and that is fine. But when it comes to spiritual gifts, God is saying that we should make sure that we use these special abilities to help others, not to take advantage of others, not to fleece people, and not to make a lot of money. That can never be objective. So, the first focus is worship. The second focus is fellowship. The third focus is discipleship. And the fourth focus of your life is “Ministry”. Ministry just simply means service. God wants me to serve people.
Prayer: Father, please show me the areas where I need to grow spiritually and help me grow in worship, fellowship, discipleship, and in ministry, in Jesus Name. Amen!
