Governs
Proverbs 27:19 “Just as water reflects a person’s true face, so the human heart reflects a person’s true character.” (The Voice)
Proverbs 4:23-27 “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life. Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech. Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.” Your heart determines the course of your life. And we see from this scripture that it all evolves from the heart. The heart is the key. Three things stand out from this passage of scripture. The first is that the heart Governs Your Speech. Proverbs 4:24 “Avoid all perverse talk; stay away from corrupt speech.”
Matthew 12:34 “But you who are known as the Pharisees are rotten to the core like venomous snakes. How can your words be good if you are rotten within? For what has been stored up in your hearts will be heard in the overflow of your words!” (TPT). We have a lot of people talking big, blowing out ‘Christianese’, saying this and that but the heart is bad. God is saying everything such people say is nonsense because the heart is bad. So, you need to fix the heart. The King James Version of Matthew 12:34 “…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” If you want to know what is in your heart, just listen to what comes out of your mouth.
People are quick to say, ‘God sees my heart’, but their mouth has actually revealed their heart. ‘Oh Pastor, that is not what is in my heart’. But that is what came out of your mouth. That is what is in your heart, my dear, check the scriptures. Rather than falling on our knees and saying, ‘Wow! So, I am capable of saying something like this? So, this has been in my heart? God help me and cleanse me’. We defend ourselves by insisting that that is really not what we meant. That is not really what is in our hearts. The truth is out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Am I saying that you cannot make a mistake? Not at all. But if you check the things that come out of your mouth consistently, they should tell you the things that are in your heart.
Someone said, “What’s down in the well comes up in the bucket”. While some of us have only read about wells in books, some of us have experienced it first-hand. You lower your bucket to get the water and pull it up. If it is muddy down there, what comes up will be muddy. If it is clear down there, what comes up will be clear. The point is rather than defending the things that are coming out of your mouth consistently, repent and ask God to cleanse you.
Prayer: Father, I repent before You today. Please cleanse my heart and put Your own Words in my mouth and my heart, in Jesus Name. Amen!
