Daniel 5:12 “This man Daniel, whom the king named Belteshazzar, has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding. He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means.”

This same Daniel, when he was confronted with the things that are to be, became perplexed because he really didn’t understand them. However, he sought understanding. God doesn’t want you to be in the dark. God wants you to have understanding. And by His Spirit, He will give you understanding in the Name of Jesus. Understanding is so powerful. In Acts 8:26-40, when Philip, by the Holy Spirit, caught up with the Ethiopian Eunuch, he asked, “Do you understand what you are reading?” The man replied, “How can I, unless someone instructs me?” The Ethiopian Eunuch, even though he did not understand the scriptures, continued reading them. And that is sometimes okay because when you stay at it, God will send you help.

For some of us, we are consuming information, but we really don’t understand it. Things are unfolding around us, but we really don’t understand them. However, here is what separates the Ethiopian Eunuch from a lot of people. When Philip asked if he understood what he was reading, the man said, “How can I when there is no one here to explain to me?” The difference between the Ethiopian Eunuch and a lot of people is that even when they don’t understand, they pretend. If you are pretending to understand something, it means you know that you don’t understand it. But you just want to make yourself look good. However, some people actually don’t understand, but they think they understand. So, as far as they know, they understand. And if that is the case, then there is a big problem.

The Ethiopian Eunuch knew he didn’t understand, and he owned up. Arrogance blocks understanding. I pray that God will make you see as you ought to see, and God will give you understanding in the Name of Jesus. In Daniel 8:27, the Bible says Daniel was sick for days because of a hunger for understanding; it was too much for him. You cannot be shallow, just glossing over information, glossing over knowledge, acquiring knowledge, but lacking depth of understanding. You will have understanding in the Name of Jesus.

The Ethiopian Eunuch owned up to not understanding, and he got understanding. God will give you the grace to position yourself for understanding in the Name of Jesus. The disciples of Jesus in Matthew 6 had information – they heard from God directly. But they reached the wrong conclusion because they lacked understanding. I pray again that you will not lack understanding and you will not reach a wrong conclusion in the Mighty Name of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, teach me to hunger for understanding, in the Name of Jesus. Amen!
