3rd Root of Personal Disharmony: Approval Addiction

And the Holy Spirit, in bodily form, descended on Him like a dove. And a voice from Heaven said, ‘You are My dearly loved Son, and You bring Me great joy’ Luke 3:22

A lot of us are suffering from approval addiction. You had a bad day simply because no one noticed the new shirt you were wearing. That is approval addiction. The origin of approval addiction is when we have not received approval perhaps as children from people who should affirm us. Perhaps a father never tells his daughter he loves her, never hugs her and never affirms her. So she spends her life flirting with men; sleeping around thinking from sex she can get approval only to discover that there it leads to emptiness. For others, it’s a spiritual head perhaps a pastor who never affirms you or tells you that you will be great so the void is there. There are wives that want their husbands to affirm them publicly. Hold their hand or walk with them in public but the husband keeps shying away from every public display of emotion causing her to face life with a void. She becomes vulnerable and is seeking compliments outside. If you do not affirm your spouse, he/she will get it from somewhere else. That is what wakes it dangerous because eventually that spouse becomes open to having an affair. He/she does not want to have an affair but it just happens because they are seeking affirmation. Make up your mind that no one will tell your spouse better things than you. Make up your mind not to treat any male or female better than your spouse. We all gravitate towards respect and honor. Honour your spouse and they will gravitate towards you. Married or not, the way God sees Christ, is the way He sees you. God could have affirmed Him privately, but He chose to also do it publicly. And this helped Jesus because He did not need any other person’s affirmation. If your spouse does not affirm you at least God is affirming you. You have no excuse to seek it else here.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, I lay down my approval addiction. Help me work in the consciousness of God’s affirmation in every area of my life daily, in Jesus Name.
