The Protector
‘Then David asked the Lord, “Should I chase after this band of raiders? Will I catch them?” And the Lord told him “Yes, go after them. You will surely recover everything that was taken from you!’ 1Sam.30:8.
The father is the protector. Your family should be able to run to your arms for protection. Your wife should be able to put her head on your shoulder and feel safe. When the father looses his ability to protect the family then the power of headship is eroded. Fathers operate a domain; you have to protect your domain. You have to protect your wife. There is a rule that we operate in my family, we don’t really have extended family issues but even the little ones that come up, I protect my wife. No matter what she has done, it is not in the hands of external party to discipline her. Talk to me and I will talk to my wife but I will never expose her to my family and let them talk to her when they are upset about something. Words once said cannot be unsaid. My sister said to my mum that there is nothing anyone can tell me my wife has done that I will find fault in. The truth is even if I do we discuss it when we get home but I will never expose her because I am her protector. What if she is wrong? Of course she can be wrong that is why you should correct her but you are not to expose her. Is that clear?
When you’re protecting, you have to keep abreast of the happenings. You cannot be an absent father. You have to be present to be current. It is when you are absent that it is possible for things to happen in your house and you will not know about it. A lot of times, it is the fathers that are the last to know what is happening in their homes. This is a terrible thing. You have to be on top of things. You have to know what is happening. You cannot be absent and be current at the same time. This is another reason why God gives us the strength of two as parents. Your wife must be able to tell you what happens in your absence at least until your children are old enough to also tell you what happens in your absence. So even if you cannot be physically present always, you keep abreast of events. Activate your spiritual capacity as the protector to know things even before they happen by the power of the Holy Ghost.
Prayer: Father, put Your Spirit on me anew. Fill me with the ability to protect my family effectively and know of things even before they happen, in Jesus Name.
