Be You!

Luke 12:² “You can’t keep your true self hidden forever; before long you’ll be exposed. You can’t hide behind a religious mask forever; sooner or later the mask will slip and your true face will be known.” (MSG)

Wearing a mask can be draining and discouraging. Even the nose mask that we had to wear for protection during the Coronavirus pandemic was uncomfortable. Yes, we tried to make it fashionable. But by the time you have had it on it all day, after a while what happens? As soon as you get into your car, or you get home what do you want to do? You want to take off the mask. Paul’s second secret is revealed in 2 Corinthians 4:² “We don’t try to trick anyone, and we don’t twist the word of God. Instead, we teach the truth plainly, showing everyone who we REALLY are. Then they can know in their hearts what kind of people we are in God’s sight.” (NLT/NCV, emphasis added).

We do not fake it. We are legit by God’s grace. Paul says we do not trick anybody. We are not putting up a show. We are open. We are plain with the Word of God. No hocus pocus, no gimmicks. And that is how God wants us to live our lives. God did not make you to be someone else. God made you to be you. Think about it for a minute. God did not make you to be someone else. God did not make you to be that celebrity you are trying to model your wardrobe after. God made you to be you. We are missing you.

The sad truth is that a lot of people grew up with their parents saying, why are you not like your brother or your sister? Can’t you see how your brother or sister did that? Why are you not like him or her? And a lot of our parents had the best intentions. They were just trying to stir us up and challenge us. However, in many cases, they were doing a lot of damage to the person. So many people grew up trying to be like one sibling or the other. And at the end of the day, they became frustrated about themselves. Jesus is bringing healing to your soul today in the Mighty Name of Jesus. You do not have to be like your brother or sister. You have permission today to walk away from that lie, and not to be like anybody but to be you. And that is what God wants for you. We want to see you. We want to meet you. We are waiting for you.

The truth is that God does not bless fakes. God only blesses originals. For instance, some people try to dress like and be like Michael Jackson. God can only bless a Michael Jackson for being a Michael Jackson. You cannot receive that blessing. You can only receive your own. If you want God to bless your life, you better just start being who God has made you to be. If you want God’s blessing on your life, you have to be original.
