Plastic

Psalm 119:73 “Your very hands have held me and made me who I am; give me more revelation-light so I may learn to please you more.” (TPT).

The neurosurgeons and brain experts say that when the human brain is left without training or stretching, for a child, the brain on its own begins to stretch and train itself. That is why children are so inquisitive. They want to find out what, why, where, and how of everything. Children ask a lot of questions because their brains are training themselves. Children are constantly pushing the envelope and challenging the status quo. Your child observes that Daddy is always watching football on the television. If I break it, will the players come out? And when you are not watching, you just hear a crash. Do not conclude that your child is a destroyer. His or her brain is just expanding and being trained. His brain is exploring and developing.

What most parents do is they try to tame the child and make the child civil. But children were not designed to be civil. They are designed to push the envelope. However, a study shows that between twenty-five and thirty years of age, the brain stops self-training. That is why it appears that some people’s brains did not develop after they graduated from the university, because they stopped learning. However, brain plasticity says the brain has the ability to change at any age for better or for worse. So even though the brain of a thirty-one-year-old has stopped self-discovery, it still has the capacity to be better.

But when that same brain is left without training and stretching, it actually begins to deteriorate. The mind is not to be left to itself; you have to deliberately stretch and exercise your mind. It is also proven that at any age, man can begin to turn around the mind for the better. They say that even seventy-year-olds who begin to do these things become sharper and more astute. Their brains are sometimes even better than the brains of forty-year-olds. And it is because they are deliberate about training their brains. The brain is plastic, when you apply pressure, heat, and stretching, it can be moulded.

Isaiah 54:2 Enlarge the place of your brain, stretch your brain’s curtains wide, do not hold back…” (NIV, paraphrased with emphasis). What are the ways of moulding, and stretching our brains? What are the ways of being a stretched thinker, of exercising the brain? What are the ways of making sure that our brains are not only sharp, but also have access to things, systems, and processes that will baffle the world? We will delve into these things beginning tomorrow.

Prayer: Father, indeed Your very hands have held me and made me who I am; give me more revelation-light so that I can be more for You, in Jesus Name. Amen!
