Genesis 26:12-13 “When Isaac planted his crops that year, he harvested a hundred times more grain than he planted, for the Lord blessed him. He became a very rich man, and his wealth continued to grow.”
I know that things are far from what they should be in Nigeria and in many other nations in the world. I know that people are going through a lot of difficulty, and sometimes families are struggling. I know that our nation appear to be in a very difficult position. Every time we think things are difficult, only for the next government to come into power, and we see how much more difficult things can be. But there is a lie, a bait that you should not bite. The third bait you should not bite is the I Can Only Prosper If I Japa Bait. It is not true. Japa is a Yoruba word turned Nigerian slang, which means “to run away” or “to flee” or “to escape”.
God can prosper you in the land you are in. In fact, God will prosper you wherever He has planted you in the Name of Jesus. Wherever it is, God will prosper you. If He wants you to leave, He will make a way. He will lead you. But God will prosper. Do not have that mentality where you are not achieving anything because you are always looking to exit. Before you know it, your time is gone. You miss the opportunities that are staring you in the face. Listen, emigration has always been a part of humanity, a part of man’s history.
Abraham, the father of faith, was Abram—he emigrated (Genesis 12). God told him to leave his country, his father’s house, for a land God would show him. Abraham emigrated. Isaac emigrated; he went to live with the Philistines. Joseph was an unwilling immigrant. He was emigrated by his brothers. David was an immigrant; he emigrated to the Philistines to hide from Saul. Ruth and her husband were immigrants. Israel, as a nation, was a nation that was in diaspora, a nation of immigrants. In fact, Jesus was an immigrant. Jesus immigrated to Egypt in His early years. Emigration and movement are a part of the makeup of man.
However, it is a lie that you will not prosper until you leave your country or until you get to another country, because guess what? Things are not necessarily easier in the other country. You do not want to even get me started on that. There are people in the country you are envying, what they are posting on social media is not what is actually going on. I know it is hard to believe, but they would trade places in a heartbeat. The key thing is that if you are always looking at the grass on the other side, you will not see the opportunities that God is making for you. What determines success is not the location you are in; it is the Covenant that you operate.
Prayer: Father, plant me on Your own mountain—the place reserved for Your own dwelling, that Your hands have established (Exodus 15:17), in the Name of Jesus. Amen!
