Excuse Me
Exodus 3:10-11 “Now go, for I am sending you to Pharaoh. You must lead my people Israel out of Egypt.” But Moses protested to God, “Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”
Yesterday, we saw that closely following the bait of People Like Me Don’t… is an excuse, and Moses had four big excuses. Moses’ first excuse was Who Am I? – People like me don’t lead people. “Pastor, it is okay that Jesus has saved me, and I am happy. But people like me don’t…” Who am I? After God had solved the first hurdle for Moses, Moses gave another excuse. Exodus 3:13 “But Moses protested, “If I go to the people of Israel and tell them, ‘The God of your ancestors has sent me to you,’ they will ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what should I tell them?” (emphasis added). In other words, Who Are You? Moses’ excuse was, I don’t even know You, so I cannot represent You. Most times when God is leading us to talk about Jesus, the excuse is I don’t even know the Bible from Genesis to Revelation.
Who Are You? And God answered that question, God will answer you in the Name of Jesus. Exodus 4:1 “But Moses protested again, “What if they won’t believe me or listen to me? What if they say, ‘The Lord never appeared to you’?” I am certain that by now, many of us will be tired of Moses already. Some may even be asking, What kind of person is this? What if they don’t take me seriously? What if they think I am a clown? What if I go and they don’t listen to me? What if they say I don’t have a calling? “What if?”, and that is the question of What Proof Do I Have? You would think that after answering those three, Moses would be content, right?
Exodus 4:10 “But Moses pleaded with the Lord, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.” (emphasis added). Moses went from protesting to protesting, to protesting again, and now to pleading. God, please, I don’t know how to do public speaking. I am usually shy in front of people. And it is recorded that Moses stammers when he is before people. This is the question of Can’t You See My Disability?
So, the first question of Who Am I? God answered Moses and said I will be with you, Moses. If you think you are nothing, I will come with you, give you confidence, and make you something. Even if you think you are nothing, or that people like you don’t… But people like you will, not because of you but because of God. God will come alongside you and make it happen. The question of Who Am I? –solved! Who Are You? God says I am who I am. Who God is, is who He is. The revelation of His Person will be released to you, and that answered the question.
Prayer: Father, thank You for revealing who I am and whose I am, in Jesus Name. Amen!
