Give Up Control

Luke 1:38 “Mary responded, “I am the Lord’s servant. May everything you have said about me come true.” (NIV, emphasis added).

We overestimate our ability to control. If you think about it, you really do not control the major things in your life. The truth is you do not control the biggest events in your life. You do not control the day you were born or the day you die. You do not control if you will sleep or when exactly you sleep, you just sleep. Read the rest of this entry

Let It Be

Luke 1: 34-35 “Mary asked the angel, “But how can this happen? I am a virgin.” The angel replied, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the baby to be born will be holy, and he will be called the Son of God” (emphasis added).

Don’t you just love God and how He relates with us? God did not have to explain anything to Mary. Mary could just have woken up and boom, she is pregnant. God could have just done what He wanted to do. Then Mary wakes up perplexed, confused, and confounded and God says, ‘Sorry, I did not mention. Read the rest of this entry

Fear Not!

Luke 1:30 “Don’t be afraid, Mary,” the angel told her, “for you have found favour with God!”

Sometimes, when God says to you, I am with you, what grips your heart is fear. And you are like if You are with me then prove it. Look at my situation, and You are saying that You are with me? But God is saying to you again today, ‘Do not be afraid, I am with you’. Read the rest of this entry

With You

Joshua 1:3&5 “I promise you what I promised Moses: ‘Wherever you set foot, you will be on land I have given you… No one will be able to stand against you as long as you live. For I will be with you as I was with Moses. I will not fail you or abandon you.”

The best things in life happen when we give up control. Luke 1:26-29In the sixth month of Elizabeth’s pregnancy, God sent the angel Gabriel to Nazareth, a village in Galilee, to a virgin named Mary. She was engaged to be married to a man named Joseph, a descendant of King David. Gabriel appeared to her and said, Read the rest of this entry

Let Go!

Job 23:14 “So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny.”

God has taken us through letting go of baggage and bitterness. Over the next few days, God is taking us through how to let go of control. Guess what? God is not talking to that controlling friend, or spouse, or colleague. God is talking to you. We tell ourselves that we are not controlling, we are just helpful. Read the rest of this entry

Kill It!

Ephesians 4:31-32 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (NIV, emphasis added)

So, how do I get rid of bitterness? To get rid of all bitterness, we do what the Bible says in our anchor scripture. The first is Kill Bitterness With Compassion. And the second is Kill Bitterness With Forgiveness.

Posture

Isaiah 49:25 “But thus says the Lord… For I will contend with him who contends with you, And I will save your children.” (NKJV)

Psalm 35:1-8 “Plead my cause, O Lord, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help… say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: Read the rest of this entry

Get Rid Of It!

I need this baggage out of my life because it is stripping me of the grace of God in my life. How do I kill the root of bitterness? I am glad you asked. To get rid of all bitterness, we do what the Bible says in our anchor scripture. The first is Kill Bitterness With Compassion. Read the rest of this entry

Pause & Check

Luke 11:34&36 “Your eye is like a lamp that provides light for your body. When your eye is healthy, your whole body is filled with light. But when it is unhealthy, your body is filled with darkness… If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant…”

The first problem with bitterness is Bitterness Has A Dangerous Root. The second problem with bitterness is Bitterness Produces A Poisonous Fruit.  Hebrews 12:15 “See to it that … no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.” (NIV, emphasis added). When the root of bitterness grows up, it causes trouble and defiles many. Bitterness is not just a root—It is a root that produces bad fruit. Read the rest of this entry

No Records

1 Corinthians 13:4-6 “Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth.” (GNT, emphasis added).

Bitterness is an underground job—it happens beneath the surface, so nobody sees it, and that is why it is so dangerous. Bitterness has a dangerous root. You may still be smiling and even still be in friendship with the person, but the deep-seated bitterness is growing. Read the rest of this entry
