Gratitude Equals Peace

‘And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankfulCol.3:15

The first thing we need to know about gratitude is that you cannot be peaceful if you are not grateful. If you find out that there is turmoil in your heart. If you find out that there are consistent storms in your life, then check your gratitude because worry and gratitude don’t live together. Worry and gratitude cannot live together; it is Read the rest of this entry

Posture Of Obedience

‘Then Eli perceived that the Lord had called the boy. Therefore Eli said to Samuel, “Go, lie down; and it shall be, if He calls you, that you must say, ‘Speak, Lord, for Your servant hears.’” 1Sam.3:8-9 [NKJV].

The third thing in enquiring from the Lord is a posture of obedience. When you are asking God a question you must have a posture of obedience. In other words, you must make up your mind to obey whatever He says. In 1 Samuel 3 [please read], God was calling Samuel but he did not know the voice of God so he ran to Eli instead. Check Your Motive II

‘For promotion cometh neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the south. But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another’ Ps.75:6-7

‘People may be pure in their own eyes, but the Lord examines their motivesProv.16:2. It is very easy to drift into believing that your promotion depends on man because that is when people begin to do strange things. ‘They went to Balaam and delivered this message to him: “This is what Balak son of Zippor says: Please don’t let anything stop you from coming to help me. I will pay you very well and do whatever you tell me. Just come and curse these people for me!” But Balaam responded to Balak’s messengers, “Even if Balak were to give me his palace filled with silver and gold, I would be powerless to do anything against the will of the Lord my God.’ Num.22:16-17. You would expect that he next thing Balaam would say would sound something like: “In fact, if you are not careful, I am going to demote you”. You know Balaam can demote the king? But instead Balaam’s response was, ‘But stay here one more night, and I will see if the Lord has anything else to say to meNum.22:19. But you see when you don’t know who you are and you allow greed [what can I get, me too I can finally have a blackberry or drive a four wheel drive] to corrupt your heart then it darkens your spirituality. Then the donkey begins to see sharper than the prophet. Read the rest of this entry

Check Your Motive I

‘You can cry and cover the Lord’s altar with tears, but the Lord will not accept your gifts. He will not be pleased with the things you bring to him’ Mal.2:13 [ERV]

Second thing in enquiring from the Lord is check your motive. Why am I asking what I am asking? What is my motive? I encourage you to read Numbers 22. This is the story of a Prophet called Balaam and a king called Balak. Balaam was a gentile and not a Jew but Balaam knew God and could hear God. Balaam described himself as the one that sees a vision without closing his eyes. Balak the king of Moab said I have heard of a people who came out of Egypt and are consuming Read the rest of this entry

By Significance I

‘Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God’ Eph.4:1

You need to keep the big picture in front of you. Survival is about what you can get, success on the other hand is about what you have gotten, and significance is about what you have given. What are you giving? Survival is about staying alive, survival of the fittest. Some story reads, “When the gazelle wakes up and the lion wakes up, the gazelle knows that he must run faster than the fastest lion. The gazelle knows that if he doesn’t run faster than the fastest lion he is dead. Read the rest of this entry

Legacy

‘I will confirm him as king over my house and my kingdom for all time, and his throne will be secure forever.’” 1Chr.17:14

When talking about Legacy, what we are actually referring to is that thing you will be remembered for from generation to generation. For some people the only legacy they have is their tombstone. I urge you today to think about it, when you are gone [not if but when], what will you be remembered for. When you go will people say, “Praise God”? The Bible says about Dorcas that when she died the widows gave Peter no rest. This woman must not die. Will people say something Read the rest of this entry

Instructive Armor II

‘He picked up five smooth stones from a stream and put them into his shepherd’s bag. Then, armed only with his shepherd’s staff and sling, he started across the valley to fight the philistine’ 1Sam.17:40

You cannot use Saul’s armor. You need to use the surest thing in the world. The Bible says that (‘the meek and the quiet spirit’), the beauty that is from the inside is what a godly woman is. You do not become great by being a copycat – copying the Saul’s. You become great by deploying your own uniqueness. If you look at that battle, David remained simple and agile. If you are running a business or you are a professional, whatever you are doing, remain simple and agile. Goliath’s Read the rest of this entry

Instructive Armor I

‘Then Saul gave David his own armor –  a bronze helmet and a coat of mail. David put it on, strapped on the sword over it, took one step or two to see what it was like, for he had never worn such things before. “I can’t go in these,” he protested…’ 1 Sam.17:36-37

When you look at Goliath’s armor [1Sam.17:5-7], Saul’s armor [1Sa.17:38-39], and David’s armor [1Sam.17:40], it is very instructive to us. The value to us is you cannot go against the enemy and defeat the enemy with a weapon that the enemy knows how to use better than you. You cannot use the same tools that the enemy has mastered to defeat the enemy. You simply cannot! I was listening to Dr. Okey Onuzo’s teaching in God’s Favourite House during the Read the rest of this entry

Ignore The “Eliabs”

‘He walked over to some others and asked them the same thing and received the same answer. Then David’s question was reported to king Saul, and the king sent for him’ 1Sam.17:30-31

By now you must have read all the Scripture references listed for the military battles of David. If you haven’t then please read 1Sam.17; 1Sam.18-20; 1Sam.23:1-5; 1Sam.27; 1Sam.30; 2Sam.2,3&4; 2Sam.5:6-10; 2Sam.5:17-20; 2Sam.5:22-25; 2Sam.10; 2Sam.11-12; 2Sam.13:18; 2Sam.20; 2Sam.21:15-17; 2Sam.21:18; 2Sam.22:19; and 2Sam.22:20-22.  As you do, may God Himself visit you. Over the next few days we will be studying the battle between Read the rest of this entry

No Repentance, No Restoration!

‘Restore to me the joy of your salvation,
and make me willing to obey you’ Ps.51:12.

The third reason David almost lost that battle is; restoration without repentance will always lead to regret. Absalom was not repentant at all. He still felt slighted that the king would deal with him the way he did. He didn’t see what he had done wrong. “Amnon raped my sister for crying out loud and I killed him. So bloody what?” No repentance. Leaders take note, when you restore someone that has not repented; you are setting yourself up for trouble. This Read the rest of this entry
