A Shift

‘The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and a contrite heart—
These, O God, You will not despise’ Ps.51:17 [NKJV].

Over the next few days we are going to be learning True Repentance from the heart of David. David demonstrated true repentance in Psalm 51. Interestingly this is one of the Psalms that my grandmother made us memorize by repetition. My grandmother is illiterate so we had to memorize it in our dialect. I would encourage you to memorize Psalm 51 in your dialect; it is very powerful. There were points when Read the rest of this entry

Trustworthy Father

‘But even after all he did, you refused to trust the Lord your God, who goes before you looking for the best places to camp, guiding you with a pillar of fire by night and a pillar of cloud by day’ Deut.1:32-33.

Does God say no to some of the life defining questions we ask? Yes! However you must make it a habit to ask the Father because He alone knows the end from the beginning. On the subject of marriage, ninety nine percent of the time you should get married. It is only like one percent of the time that God will say no. And for that one percent, marriage is not in God’s plan for their life. So for every one Read the rest of this entry

Starting Point

‘So now we can rejoice in our wonderful new relationship with God because our Lord Jesus Christ has made us friends of God’ Rom.5:11

Today I want to share an experience with you that happened to me over ten years ago. It is not all together new but some of you might be reading this for the first time. I trust that God will breath on it a fresh and use it to grow you in enquiring from the Lord. I was on a flight and sitting beside me was this frail old Caucasian woman. As is customary for me, I asked the Holy Spirit, “Who is this lady?” If I am going to be sitting beside Read the rest of this entry

Go Ahead And Ask

Again David asked, “Will the leaders of Keilah betray me and my men to Saul?” And the Lord replied, “Yes, they will betray you.” 1Sam.23:12

The final thing in enquiring from the Lord is just go ahead and ask. Don’t be afraid just ask. Don’t miss this because it is the key in enquiring from the Lord. The easiest way is to ask simple questions. Ask a question that will have a yes or no answer – or a green light or a red light. David says, “should I pursue or should I stay?” Yes or No answer. David says, “will they betray me or will they be loyal to me?” Yes or No answer. David says, Read the rest of this entry

Check Your Motive I

‘You can cry and cover the Lord’s altar with tears, but the Lord will not accept your gifts. He will not be pleased with the things you bring to him’ Mal.2:13 [ERV]

Second thing in enquiring from the Lord is check your motive. Why am I asking what I am asking? What is my motive? I encourage you to read Numbers 22. This is the story of a Prophet called Balaam and a king called Balak. Balaam was a gentile and not a Jew but Balaam knew God and could hear God. Balaam described himself as the one that sees a vision without closing his eyes. Balak the king of Moab said I have heard of a people who came out of Egypt and are consuming Read the rest of this entry

Rooted In Relationship

…“O Lord, God of Israel, I have heard that Saul is planning to come and destroy Keilah because I am here. Will the leaders of Keilah betray me to him? And will Saul actually come as I have heard? O Lord, God of Israel, please tell me”’ 1Sam.23:10-11.

Firstly, enquiring from the Lord is rooted in relationship with the Lord. We have people that don’t have any relationship with the Lord whatsoever. They are not interested in building a relationship with the Lord or living for Jesus. Then they get to a cross road and they expect heaven to answer. It does not work that way. But David… told Abiathar the priest to bring the ephod and ask the Lord what he should do’ 1Sam.23:9. Note that priest was there. David did not ask for a Read the rest of this entry

By Significance IV

‘For this is what the Lord says: David will have a descendant sitting on the throne of Israel forever’ Jer.33:17.

The second thing that David left us is the perpetual kingship of Israel. In fact the kingship of Israel is known as the throne of David. Whoever is going to be king in Israel is occupying the throne of David [Jer.33:17]. Even Jesus is called the Son of David and the Bible says Jesus will sit on the throne of David his father [Luke 1:32]. That is just minded blowing. David left two major legacies – perpetual kingship of Israel and the Book of Psalms. Again in the Psalms, you Read the rest of this entry

David’s Secret Weapon

‘David replied to the Philistine, “You come to me with sword, spear, and javelin, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies – the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied’ 1Sam.17:45

The question to you and I this morning is how come David won every battle? What was his secret? It is an open secret really. David gives away that secret in his words and with the pattern of his life. David’s secret weapon is simple; David always secured victory before the battle. [verse 45 to 47]. What were David and Goliath trading? Words. Always answer the enemy back. I can never over emphasize that enough. My grandmother would say that if someone says something to Read the rest of this entry

Cultivate Hunger

‘When I remember You on my bed,
I meditate on You in the night watches.My soul follows close behind You;
Your right hand upholds me’ Ps.63:6 & 8 [NKJV].

Don’t be satisfied with knowing a friend of God. Don’t be satisfied that your husband or wife is a friend of God. Stir up a craving within you, a craving to pursue real friendship with God. I had an experience some years ago; I was on a flight that almost crashed. The aircraft was in free fall for at least thirty seconds. We were going through what the pilot described as a field of lightening mines. People sitting by the window could literally see the lightening tearing Read the rest of this entry

Focused Desire

‘As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?’ Ps.42:1-2 [NKJV].

Pursue intimacy with God regardless of where you are. Pursue intimacy with God. God said concerning David, “I have found a man after My heart”. What will God say about you? God said to Samuel, “I have found a man that is passionately in love with Me”. Sadly, a lot of people just want to use God because we have heard that the people that are God’s friends, they do things and they get away with it. They say to God ‘I am your friend’ so that I can do things Read the rest of this entry
