Zech.8:17 (MSG) “…Keep your lives simple and honest…”

I have discovered in my years of pastoring that people like razzmatazz. Some other pastors have also discovered this and so they give people razzmatazz. Read the rest of this entry

Micah 6:8 (MSG) “But he’s already made it plain how to live, what to do, what God is looking for in men and women. It’s quite simple: Do what is fair and just to your neighbour, be compassionate and loyal in your love, and don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously.”

“…don’t take yourself too seriously— take God seriously”. Sometimes we take ourselves too seriously and we also take the people we do life with too seriously. Read the rest of this entry

1 Cor. 14:40 (Voice) “Just maintain the proper order in all things.”

We would kick-off today’s devotional with the concluding thought from yesterday. Let everything in your life have a home. Yesterday we learned that the average person spends Read the rest of this entry

Ps. 19:9-10 Reverence for the Lord is pure, lasting forever. The laws of the Lord are true; each one is fair. They are more desirable than gold, even the finest gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.

Our fourth lesson in simplicity is from Mark 14:43-46 (please read). Jesus was so simple that when the guards came to where the twelve were, they would not have been able to spot Jesus. Read the rest of this entry

Matt.18:2-5 (MSG) “…unless you return to square one and start over like children, you’re not even going to get a look at the kingdom, let alone get in. Whoever becomes simple and elemental again, like this child, will rank high in God’s kingdom…”

Our third lesson in simplicity is from Luke 19:45-46 (please read). In this passage, the ‘church’ had now become a market place. We all have been to a market place, a lot of our malls can be categorized as such in the sense of chaos, rowdiness, everybody talking at the same time and a lot of confusion. Prov.15:16 (MSG) “A simple life in the Fear-of-God is better than a rich life with a ton of headaches.”

Our first lesson in simplicity is from Luke 2:7 (please read). What lesson can you learn from the life of Jesus from this passage? The first and obvious lesson here is, Read the rest of this entry

Pure Strength

Prov. 13:7 (MSG) “A pretentious, showy life is an empty life; a plain and simple life is a full life.”

F. Schumacker says, “Any intelligent fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius—and a lot of courage—to move in the opposite direction.” Read the rest of this entry

His Example

Mark 3:32-33 “There was a crowd sitting around Jesus, and someone said, “Your mother and your brothers are outside asking for you.” Jesus replied, “Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?” Then he looked at those around him and said, “Look, these are my mother and brothers.”

Today’s scripture reference is the crux of our learning on how Jesus simplified His life. Jesus was having a meeting and they told Him that His mother and brothers were outside. Read the rest of this entry

Cut Off

“He cuts off every branch of mine that doesn’t produce fruit, and he prunes the branches that do bear fruit so they will produce even more” John 15:2

You cannot just be doing things because other people are doing it. That is the fastest route to killing yourself. As a church, in God’s Favourite House, there are so many things that we have put to sleep. One example is bulletins. The amount of work hours that goes into printing bulletins every week is a lot; content development, content gathering, proof reading, and the printing not to talk of the cost of the printing. So one day I met with my team and challenged the usefulness of the bulletins. Do people really read the bulletins? So we decided to do a little experiment, we would Read the rest of this entry
