Foundation Stone III
“Reuben, thou art my firstborn, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellency of dignity, and the excellency of power: Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel…” Gen.49:3-4 [emphasis added].
All of us must desire understanding when it comes to spiritual things. Spiritual things are not like a switch but rather spiritual things are more like an electric oven; it takes time to heat up when you plug it. That is why when you keep praying, after a while you notice you begin to get the results. It takes time. However, it is the same thing when you unplug the electric oven, it also takes time to cool off. Someone who has been praying and things have been happening becomes complacent and stops praying. What do you think will happen? Things will continue to happen but after while they will begin to dwindle. That is why spiritual things are dangerous. I pray that your progress will not dwindle. Same thing with tithing, you are faithful and doors begin to open. Then you stop, you rationalize, you pay anything but your tithe. Things will still progress and that is the false confidence that people have. Some people begin to even boast that their income is better than it used to be and use that as a basis to continue to rationalize the things of God under the guise of ‘using wisdom’. Slowly but surely things will begin to grind to a halt. It is better to maintain the cruise, if you know what it is to maintain a cruise, than to start again. God says to us, take this and be faithful in it. We say to God, give me the big thing then I will show You my faithfulness. God says if you are not faithful in little things, you will not be faithful in big things. Even if your revenue is fifty million a month it is still small compared to what God wants to do with you [say amen]. The problem is we allow logic to short-circuit our progress. But you will be wiser beginning today, in Jesus Name.
#3. BE STABLE. Spiritual and emotional stability is indispensable. “A double minded man is unstable in all his ways” James 1:8. If God is God serve Him. If you do not want to, then leave God alone. Be stable! In Genesis 49:3, Israel was saying because Ruben is unstable as water, he will not excel and his life will not count. But you will excel and your life will count. Stability is so important! If you drop a rock in the path of flowing water, the water will just flow round the rock. Some people are like that they just flow. Secondly, water takes the shape of whatever container it is in. And a lot of people take the shape of the environment they are in like chameleons. In church they are spiritual people but at work they are like animals. God wants you to be transformed not conformed. Thirdly, water changes state easily. If temperatures drop, water solidifies; then it is warm, water becomes liquid; and when it is really hot, water vaporizes. God wants you to be stable!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help me to be stable in every aspect of my life this year and beyond, in Jesus Name.
