How To… III
“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5
What to “put to death”: “…Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5 [emphasis added]. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality; in other words do not even flirt, which is what it means to have nothing to do Read the rest of this entry
How To… II
“So kill your earthly impulses: loose sex, impure actions, unbridled sensuality, wicked thoughts, and greed (which is essentially idolatry)” Col.3:5 [VOICE]
Paul urges us to put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within. So how do you put to death [kill]? Two practical scriptural ways of killing;
#1. You hand it over to the Holy Ghost. You put your life on the altar and you surrender that Read the rest of this entry
How To… I
“So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world” Col.3:5.
Paul says to us to gain victory over the enemy you must do three things. The first thing you do is Put to death; the second thing you do is Put off; then the third thing you do you is Put on. The King James translation for Colossians 3:5 reads, “ Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth…”. Read the rest of this entry
It Has To Be Daily
“Think about (set your affection on) the things of heaven, not the things of earth. For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God” Col.3:2-3 [emphasis added]
In Colossians 1, Paul focuses on the Supremacy of Christ and establishing that Jesus existed before the world was created. In Colossians 2, Paul focuses on victory over external dangers, external influences, philosophies, and the teachings of men. But in Colossians 3 Paul focuses on victory over and all that but in chapter 3 Paul is focusing on victory over internal danger Read the rest of this entry
Set Yourself Free
“In this new life, it doesn’t matter if you are a Jew or a Gentile, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbaric, uncivilized, slave, or free. Christ is all that matters, and he lives in all of us” Col.3:11
What will be the authority in your life? Is it going to be the Word of God or the traditions of men? There was this particular wedding, real life story, the groom I think was Yoruba and the bride was Igbo. And the parents of both the bride and the groom will not have it. So this couple had to go through hell to get the two families to attend the wedding ceremony. Their Read the rest of this entry
Christ Is All
“ Since you have been raised to new life with Christ, set your sights on the realities of heaven, where Christ sits in the place of honor at God’s right hand” Col.3:1
One major challenge that the female specie face is they are always looking for completion. Women are always looking for a man to complete them. Leah also made that mistake, she gave birth to her first child and named him Ruben meaning now I will be complete. Now I will be loved but that did not happen. She gave birth to the second child Simeon, she gave Read the rest of this entry
Public Knowledge
“So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority” Col.2:10 [emphasis added]
It is amazing that it is the same issues that the church in Colossae had. “ These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires. No help! It is only in Christ that we have help. It is only in Christ that our obedience is complete. And obedience Read the rest of this entry
The Word Alone
“Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”? These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires” Col.1:21&23 [emphasis added].
The third thing the church in Colossae struggled with was Asceticism. Asceticism is strict withdrawal from anything that will give you pleasure thinking that it is what determines your spiritual height. “Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!” Col.2:21 And many people are falling prey to this also in the church. One man found another almost dying, he had been Read the rest of this entry
Kingdom Opportunities
“So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality” Col.2:16-17
Every Christian will have an opportunity to downgrade Christ. To you it could be just sleep with that man and get a car then you can wash yourself in the Blood of Jesus. It can come in many different forms but it is the same thing that confronted the church in Colossae. It was what I was faced with in the personal experience I shared with you yesterday. The nice Read the rest of this entry
Be On Your Guard
“ You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as, “Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”?” Col.2:20-21
“Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things” Col.2:18. Interestingly, we can relate to the issues that faced the church in Colossae in the church today. These are the same issues we have to deal with. Five of such issues were enumerated in Colossians 2.
