Be Open!

So Elijah… camped beside Kerith Brook… ravens brought him bread and meat… morning and evening… But after a while the brook dried up… Then the Lord said… “Go and live in the village of Zarephath… I have instructed a widow there to feed you.” 1 Kings 17:5-9

The story is told of a daughter who rearranged the living room to suit her father. But when he saw the new arrangement, he was very upset and shouted at everybody. Why? He wanted everything to be the way he left it. After he had become calm, his wife asked him, have you even seen what your daughter did? But he flared up again; I want my chair where I left my chair! Does that sound familiar?

Then after everyone had gone to bed, he went and sat down where his daughter positioned his chair. He discovered that he had a better view of the television and he could feel the cool night breeze coming in. And the man felt like a fool. Do not be fixated on your way of doing things. Be open! There are better ways of doing what you are doing and better ways of achieving the results you so desire. Be flexible!

At one of our night vigils, the Lord showed me someone standing by a broken bridge. The person was kind of fixated on the bridge but God moved the person to the other side miraculously. I thought the person would dance and rejoice, move forward and make progress. But the person went back and was trying to fix the bridge. Why are you bothered about the bridge? If it was important for your destiny, it will be in place. Since the bridge is broken, its time has expired. The most important thing for you is that the Wind of God’s Spirit is going to take you to the other side. Be flexible!

You must be open to the Holy Spirit; to the wind of the Holy Spirit. Everyone that walks with God needs to understand that God has a mind of His own. If you think that God is just a vending machine, you will have a lot of problems with God. God is God by Himself. He will do what He pleases and no one can question Him. But if you are attentive, God’s move will not catch you unawares and you will be able to adapt. For the children of Israel, it was the pillar of fire by night and the pillar of cloud by day. When the pillar stops, the whole nation stops. Once the pillar moves, the whole nation moves. Anyone who refuses to move will get left behind. I believe strongly that the cloud is moving in a lot of lives and God is saying move with the cloud.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me to remain open and flexible before you, in Jesus Name.
