On Guard

“There are “friends” who destroy each other, but a real friend sticks closer than a brother” Prov.18:24

To have proper security, the first of four things you must do is preventing surprises from your internal forces, the people around you. There are four types of people around you.

1. Constituents: Your constituents are not necessarily for you but are for what you are for. Politicians understand this well that there are no permanent enemies or friends just permanent interests. They are for what you are for and when what you are for changes, they jump ship. A lot of people mistake their constituents for confidants and it is usually disastrous. When you take a constituent as a confidant, they will throw you under the bus without even thinking. They will sell you for five pieces of silver.
2. Confidants: Your confidants are for you. They do not know much about your vision. In fact, they may not even believe everything you believe but they are committed to you as a person. You can count on them to be there when you are down and out and to give you a listening ear when the world shuts theirs against you. Your confidants are your most precious possessions on earth apart from the Holy Spirit
3. Comrades: Your comrades are not necessarily for you, not for what you are for, but are against what you are against. People usually erroneously marry their comrades because of a common cause. For example, they both have poverty in their past so they are fighting a common enemy. The problem is when God blesses them financially and there is nothing else to fight, they face each other. That is the danger of marrying comrades.
4. Conspirators: These people are not for you, not for what you are for, not against what you are against, but they are against you. In fact, all they are thinking about is how to get an advantage over you. If you have an office for instance, all they think about is how they will look sitting on your chair. Sadly, some people have made their constituents their closest pals. It shows you how unsafe a lot of lives are.
