Special Ability I

Acts 1:8But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

The number one way to get God’s power is prayer. Acts 1:14 “They all met together and were constantly united in prayer” [with emphasis]. Acts 2:1On the day of Pentecost all the believers were meeting together in one place. Suddenly, there was a sound from heaven like the roaring of a mighty windstorm, and it filled the house where they were sitting. Then, what looked like flames or tongues of fire appeared and settled on each of them. And everyone present was filled with the Holy Spirit and began speaking in other languages, as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability” [with emphasis].

The qualities of a true church are highlighted in the Acts 2 Scripture reference. The true church that God blesses has three qualities. The true church is Powerful, On Fire and Multicultural. It is strange to have a church where everybody is from the same tribe, is of a particular colour. And it is because what Jesus came to do is to bring diversification and the power is in prayer. So for us to have God’s blessings in our lives, families and in the church, we have to continue to pray for God’s power. By the grace of God, we pray in God’s Favourite House and it is because we are hungry for God’s power.

To have God’s blessing that keeps intensifying we must continue to Use Everybody’s Language. God wants us to be a multicultural, all nation congregation. We have to embrace that because that is the diversity that Jesus brings. When the Holy Ghost came upon the early church, people heard their own native tongue, their own native dialect. Acts 2:4 “…THEY ALL began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave each of them the power to express themselves.” [NJB, with emphasis].

These were actual languages and not the gift of tongues spoken about in 1 Corinthians 14, that is for personal spiritual growth. This was for witness, for missions; this was the people hearing their natural native languages. Acts 2:11 “…ALL OF US hear them speaking in our own languages about the great things that God has done!” [TEV, with emphasis]

Prayer: Father, anoint me afresh with the Holy Spirit and with power, anoint me with the ability to witness for Jesus in many languages, in Jesus Name. Amen!
