Weights Off I

Josh. 1:8 (NRSV) “This book of the law shall not depart out of your mouth; you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to act in accordance with all that is written in it. For then you shall make your way prosperous, and then you shall be successful.”

The person that reads will always rule over the person that does not read. Great people are hungry for knowledge and this is because leaders are readers. God instructed the Jews that the Book of Law must remain before them continually. Paul was in prison but he still told Timothy to bring his books and his parchment [2 Tim.4:13]. Great people easily let go of their sleep but the ordinary person does not joke with sleep. In fact they will ask for extra hours. If great people have to work then they have to work; sleep does not stop them. What the great give up, the ordinary relish. You will not live an ordinary life, in Jesus Name.

You cannot live a common life and expect an uncommon destiny. You have to live an uncommon life and your uncommon destiny will break forth. I hope that makes sense to you. Heb.12:1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up…” [with emphasis]. The normal person has a sin that so easily trips them up. For some people for instance, they do not have a problem with money or with girls but they have a problem with glory and with pride. For some, pride or glory is not the issue; neither is gold or money but girls so easily trips them up. For some, it is money that is their issue. And for those that the devil is on their case in a special way, they have a combination of all three – gold, glory and girls. God says you need to let go and strip off, if you want to come up.

The Scripture says, “let us strip off every weight that slows us down”. Meaning, there are some things that are weights and they are not necessarily sin. Yes, you need to let go of the sin but there are weights that slow you down. God says for you to come up, you need to strip off these weights. You need to give up the weights. The question to you today is what is slowing you down? I am amazed when people come to me and say things like, “Is it a sin if I do A or if I do B?” The truth is some things are not necessarily sin but they are wrong for you because of your own consecration and what God wants to do in your life. You may see other people doing it and God is with them. But God says you cannot do it.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, help me identify the weights in my life and give me the grace to strip them off completely, in Jesus Name. Amen!
