Watch Out!

Eccl.11:⁶ “Plant early in the morning, and work until evening because you don’t know if this or that will succeed. They might both do well.”

As you step out in obedience and Earn Some, there are three things that you need to pay attention to and watch out for. The first thing you have to watch out for is Greed. Lu.12:¹⁵ “Then he said, “Beware! Guard against every kind of greed. Life is not measured by how much you own.” Yes, you need to earn some but the life of a man is not measured by the abundance of the things that he possesses. The quality of your life is determined by how contented and how grateful you are.

The second thing you need to pay attention tois the fact that God is your source. You may be working at a job or running your own business, but God is your source. If you do not understand this, you will be rattled very easily. Some people have to change jobs or experience a turn in their business and they get scared. The reason is because many people think that their business is their source. I was listening to a pastor speak a while back and even though he would not admit it initially, but he actually thought some people in his congregation were his source because of their giving.

I had to say to him, “Pastor, those people are not your source!” And his wife was thankful that I was telling him this truth. He did not want to admit that his focus was on them as his source but I told him to pay attention and listen to what he was saying. The truth is that when you make people your source, you are setting yourself up for trouble and God is clear about it in His Word. Jer.17:

⁵ “The Lord says, “Cursed is the man who trusts in man, who trusts in the flesh for his strength, and whose heart turns away from the Lord. ⁶ For he will be like a bush in the desert and will not see when good comes. He will live in dry wastes in the desert, in a land of salt where no other people live.” I pray that this will not be your story.

At first glance, it is easy to think that God is harsh for cursing these people. But God is not cursing them; God is saying they are cursed. They are cursed because they are not looking in the right direction. They are cursed because they will not see good when it is coming. And that is not the place to be.

Prayer: Father, in the Name of Jesus, I declare that You alone are my Source. I will trust in the Lord and greed will not be found in me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
