Classroom

Luke 16:10 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can be trusted with much…”

God wants us to work; work is God’s idea and work is a tool He uses to supply our needs. The third reason why God wants us to work is because work develops our character. God uses work as a testing ground for us. Luke 16:10-12 “Whoever can be trusted with very little can be trusted with much… If you have not been trustworthy in handling worldly wealth, who will trust you with true riches? And if you have not been trustworthy with someone else’s property, who will give you your own?”  [with emphasis].

Your job is a classroom for character development. You may not like your boss or your colleagues but God is using those people to work out good for you. God sees and knows your pain and struggles but beyond that, God is using that platform to launch you into where God wants you to be. You may not like the hours, you may not like the stress, but God is using your work to shape the right things in you. You learn patience, diligence, accountability and commitment at work. In other words, you do not need to feel like it but you just go to work.

God uses work to build and develop character in us. At the end of each month, the most important thing you bring back from work is you, not your salary. What has happened to you and in you is more important than the pay cheque. So, when considering a job, the question to ask is not, “what will I make?”, “which one will pay more?”, or “which one will be more profitable?” The question to ask should be, “what would I become?” Of course profit is important but what is most critical is what you are becoming.

As a businessman, not every opportunity is worth pursuing. Some opportunities come with the objective of taking you down the drain or putting a dent in your character. Again, the question is not, “what will I make on this deal?” The question is, “what will I become by the time I am done with this deal?” God is more interested in your character than in your comfort. If God were to choose for you, He will pick character over comfort and so should you as His child. The ultimate objective is to be more like Him.

Prayer: Father, as I prioritize Your way over mine, let Your character be fully formed in me. Cause me to be faithful in little and in much, in Jesus Name. Amen!
