Light

1 Thess. 4:11 (GN) “Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and earn your own living… In this way, you will win the respect of those who are not believers…”

Over the past few days, God has been answering the question, “Why Work?” In addition to work being God’s idea, work being a tool God uses to supply our needs, and work being a platform that God uses to build character in us, today God is saying to us work because work allows you to be generous. God uses your income to be a blessing to everybody around you. Eph.4:28 (with emphasis)“… (We) must work, doing something useful with our own hands, so that we may have something to share with those in need.”

Some people have decided that it is their right to receive stuff. In fact, they have backed up their position with “God says” you should take care of the poor. Staying in that position is a personal decision to remain in that state of poverty. It is my prayer that there will be no one like that in God’s Favourite House; no one that feels entitled to hand-outs, in Jesus Name. God wants us to work so that we can give to everyone around us. God might have us keep working just to help others in need. Even if you have enough in your reserve to secure you and your children’s future, God wants you to keep working so that you can be a blessing to a whole lot of other people.

The fifth reason God wants us to work is so that we can be examples to others. 1 Thess. 4:11 (GN, with emphasis) “Make it your aim to live a quiet life, to mind your own business, and earn your own living… In this way, you will win the respect of those who are not believers…” Actions speak louder than words. The quality of your work may be your greatest testimony to the world around you. How can you be the one that is always late, never completes his project on time and never produces results, yet you are the one talking about Jesus? You can be sure that no one will listen to you because the testimony of your life does not match the testimony of Christ. The quality of our work is actually the greatest witness of our faith. Quality always inspires people. When people see you with quality and excellence, they want to get close to you  and in the process, they will encounter the Jesus on your inside.

Prayer: Father, let the quality of my performance inspire and draw men to Jesus, in Jesus Name. Amen!
