Take Root

Col.2:7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.”

The first weekend of every month in God’s Favourite House is dedicated to thanksgiving. However, overtime it can easily become routine for people – gather, dance, sing and give offerings. These things are good and routine can save your life. But beyond that, God wants us to live a life of gratitude. God wants our lives to be deeply rooted in gratitude and not just vain lip service. The Bible has so much to say about growing roots – developing roots financially, relationally, spiritually and the likes. Growing roots in God and in the love of God is so indispensable to the Christian life.

In fact, all of people’s problems stem from not being rooted in the Word of God. All the problems of humanity for example, worry, fear, jealousy, guilt, bitterness, loneliness, stress all these problems, come from not being rooted in God’s love. I am not discounting the existence of external problems. But what happens on the inside of you determines if you are rooted in God’s love. The rain is going to fall on everybody, everybody is going to experience the storm, and everybody is going to have things happening in their lives that they did not plan for. But the truth is, how you respond shows if you have roots or not.

Matt.13:21 “But since they don’t have deep roots, they don’t last long. They fall away as soon as they have problems or are persecuted for believing God’s word” [with emphasis]. Everybody is going to have one challenge, one problem or the other but what you do when you have problems, shows the world if you have roots or not. If you want to last long, you have to develop deep roots in God. I pray in the Name of Jesus that you last long. Start by letting your roots go deep in God.

Jer. 17:7 “BLESSED are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence…” What is your hope and confidence when you spring up to your feet at the beginning of each day? Some people have made their wealthy uncle, connected parent, beautiful wife, or well-built husband, their hope. Really! God is saying, blessed are those who trust in the Lord, who have made the Lord their hope; not their bank account.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please help me develop deep roots in God, in Jesus Name. Amen!

  1. “If you want to last long, you have to develop deep roots in God.” This is so totally profound! No plant can last without roots really. My roots in God determines my tenacity and what flows through me in spite of the surrounding climate. It’s the roots that determine the longevity of the plan and it’s nourishment! Roots are key to us as Christians, particularly roots in God!
