Come And See
Ps. 66:5-6 “Come and see what our God has done, what awesome miracles he performs for people! He made a dry path through the Red Sea, and his people went across on foot. There we rejoiced in him.”
Please read John 1:43-51. John 4:28-29 “The woman left her water jar beside the well and ran back to the village, telling everyone, “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could he possibly be the Messiah?” (emphasis added). This is a story we are very familiar with and it is the story of the Samaritan woman’s encounter with Jesus by the well. After encountering Jesus, her immediate response was to run to her village shouting, “Come and see…”. John 1:41-42, 45 “Andrew went to find his brother, Simon, and told him, “We have found the Messiah” (which means “Christ”). Then Andrew brought Simon to meet Jesus…” “Philip found Nathanael and said to him, “We have found him about whom Moses in the law and also the prophets wrote, Jesus son of Joseph from Nazareth.” (NRSV, emphasis added).
Andrew found his brother Simon, Philip found his friend Nathanael, who do you need to find and bring to Jesus? Found people, find people. Who do you need to find and bring to Jesus? See all that Jesus accomplished through Simon Peter and it was all because someone cared to find him and bring him to Jesus. 2 Cor. 5:20 “So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” We speak for Christ when we say, ‘Come and see’”. Who do you need to find and bring to Jesus? Write down the person’s name or the people’s names in the space provided; _________________________________________________
________________________________________________. Now, go and find them and bring them to Jesus.
John 1:46 “Nathanael said to him, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth? “Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied.” Nathanael was from Cana of Galilee and Nazareth is also in Galilee. Cana and Nazareth are neighbouring towns. When Nathanael said, “Can anything good come out of Nazareth?”, what he was really saying was, we know the people in that town, and they are no good. Nathanael was speaking authoritatively; he was not just bad-mouthing a tribe or a sect. He was speaking from the antecedent of the people of Nazareth. But guess what Philip said? He said exactly what Jesus said, “Come and see.” I pray, in the Name of Jesus, that everyone that has said, “Can anything good come out of your life?” men will say to them, “Come and see”.
Despite the ‘colourful’ reputation Nazareth had, Jesus still chose to be called Jesus of Nazareth! He did not disassociate Himself from them. Some people do not want to be associated with certain nations today because of their ‘colourful’ reputation. Jesus of Nazareth, in other words, I am from Nazareth, I am the light from the dark place even in Nazareth. All sorts of negative things have been said about Nigeria as a nation. But Nigeria is the light of the world and we are proud to be Nigerians. There is no other nation like Nigeria and God has a purpose for making you a Nigerian. The same is true about every nation, God’s purpose will stand.
Prayer: Father, I commit to finding my Simeon and Nathanael and bringing them to Christ. Lord help me, empower me; fill me with Your Spirit, Your life and power, in Jesus Name. Amen!
