Priority One

John 16:13-14 “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the future. He will bring me glory by telling you whatever he receives from me.”

Today, we will pick up from our final thought from yesterday which is that Jesus promises that the Holy Spirit will tell us things that are not in any book. The Holy Spirit will give us directions that are not written anywhere. There are things that God wants to teach you by Himself. There are things I did not learn from any book, God taught me Himself. He took me through what to do and how things work. Then some of those things, years after I see them in books, and I laugh because I thought it was proprietary to me, but He has taught someone else also.

Particularly, Jesus said the Holy Spirit will tell you things about the future, the Holy Spirit will tell you things to come things. There are things to come in your life that the Holy Spirit wants to show you. We should stop looking for prophets and prophetesses, stop looking for star gazers. The Holy Spirit wants to tell you by Himself. We cannot over emphasize this enough. Jesus did not go to the cross so that you can be dependent on a mortal man for spiritual direction. Jesus went to the cross so you can receive the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit can give you spiritual direction. Our relationship with the Holy Spirit is very, very important.

John 16:16In a little while you won’t see me anymore. But a little while after that, you will see me again.” Jesus was talking about a matter of hours here. In a little while, Jesus will be taken from them and three days later, He will come back again and show Himself to them. But most times when God says in a little while, we are afraid. I do not know about you but in my walk with God, God’s ‘in a little while’ can take a while. A lady came to see me, and she sat down, I felt the Holy Spirit say, “…according to the time of life”. I knew this person was not about to have a child or looking forward to having more children. So, I figured it was about something else. She was waiting on God for something and she was tired and confused. She said but there was just one thing; she was sure she heard God say to her in January the previous year, “…according to the time of life” what she was waiting on God for would happen. But she waited till December that year certain that it would happen. December came, rolled on and nothing happened. She said but that she knew who had spoken to her.

I told her that when she arrived, I was told to tell her, “…according to the time of life” and she said she did not understand. So, I explained that the time of life for a chicken is twenty-one days, for human beings, it is nine months, for elephants it is twenty-two months. The gestation period for corn, for mango, and for cocoa vary. I advised to go and find out what her own ‘time of life’ translated to because, with God, you cannot just assume. Sometimes when God says to us, ‘in a little while’ because we know that a day with the Lord is like a thousand years and a thousand years is like a day, it does not really help us. Go to Him and seek clarity, do not just assume.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, please guide me, reveal deep secrets to me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
