Needed Help
Romans 8:15-16 “So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.”
The Holy Spirit Helps Me In My Walk With God. This is the third thing The Holy Spirit does for you. John 16:7 “But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away;
for if I do not go away, the Helper (Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor—Counsellor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him (the Holy Spirit) to you [to be in close fellowship with you].” (AMP, emphasis added). It means we need help, we need comfort, we need an advocate, we need intercession, we need counselling, we need strength. And The Holy Spirit is all these for us. Not to know The Holy Spirit is to deprive oneself. Not to pay attention to one’s relationship with The Holy Spirit, you are really depriving yourself.
The Holy Spirit is our standby. This final one is really beautiful. And this is one that Nigerians can really relate to because of the value the standby generator brings. There are two types of generators, the standby generator, and all others. With other generators, when power goes out in the middle of the night, you will have to go out and put it on either by pulling the rope or pressing a button. Then you go back and continue your sleep if it is that important to you. If you have a standby generator on the other hand, once the power goes out, what happens? The generator kicks off by itself, switches power, and power is restored.
The Holy Spirit is not just our generator, if you will, He is our standby generator. In other words, when we are dry and empty, He kicks in even without our permission and or intervention. Having this knowledge is very powerful. Once I began to understand this, my lows became almost non-existent. When I am low, He kicks in. He is my strength when I am weak. The Holy Spirit is our standby and He helps us in our walk with God. Not only does He connect us to God’s presence forever. The Holy Spirit teaches us how to know God. And He helps us walk with God. The fourth thing The Holy Spirit does for us is He Convicts Of Us Of Our Need For God. He convicts you of your need for God when you stray away from God’s path.
John 16:8 “And when he comes, he will convict the world of its sin, and of God’s righteousness, and of the coming judgment.” Conviction is of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit does not condemn us for sin. It is the devil and his agents that condemn us for sin. The Holy Spirit convicts.
Prayer: Father, let the Help, Comfort, Advocacy, Intercession, Counsel, Strength, and Standby of The Holy Spirit be real to me every day, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
