Ask Him

Luke 11:11-13 “You fathers—if your children ask for a fish, do you give them a snake instead? Or if they ask for an egg, do you give them a scorpion? Of course not! …how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him.”

Yesterday we established that everywhere in the Book of Acts of the Apostles where there was baptism of the Holy Spirit, there was speaking in other tongues. I know that someone reading this today is struggling with opening up to speaking in tongues. So, I am going to share my story of how I began to believe and eventually received the gift of speaking in other tongues. Back in my university days, I was very sceptical about speaking in other tongues because I heard people teaching each other how to speak in tongues and it was really irritating to me. I knew I was saved but I did not want to have anything to do with speaking in tongues.

However, the more I read the Bible, the more I saw that everywhere there was the baptism in The Holy Spirit there was the evidence of speaking in other tongues. The more I became hungry for this experience in The Holy Spirit. One night alone in my room I was reading a book and the author said, drop the book now and receive The Holy Ghost. It occurred to me that I was alone in the room, so no one was there to laugh at me. So, I dropped the book, I raised my hands to heaven, and boom! That was it and I have never been the same again. Maybe you are self-conscious, get into a place where you can be alone and open your heart to God.

I remember years ago; I was ministering The Holy Spirit to a young lady. I prayed for her, and it appeared that she had not received the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. So, I began to check with God to find out what was going on. And I felt led to say to her that God says if we ask Him, He will give us because a son will not ask for bread, and the Father will give him a stone. How much more will God give the Holy Spirit to them that ask? I told her I believed she had received the gift and she also needs to believe. I told her to lock herself up and just talk to God, and I left.

She later told me how she locked the door, put on worship, and she was speaking in tongues. She obviously was conscious of my presence and did not want to make a fool of herself. So, she could not release herself to God. Get alone with God if that is what it requires. God wants to baptize you with the Holy Spirit. And for some, you had this experience a long time ago and your tongue is now stale. This season, God will renew your tongue, refresh your experience, and God will give you a new infilling of the Holy Spirit to the overflowing in the Name of Jesus.

Prayer: Father, I open the channels of my spirit to You, baptize me with Your Holy Spirit without measure, in the Mighty Name of Jesus. Amen!
