Attraction vs. Action

Job 31:1 “I made a covenant with my eyes, a solemn pact with myself not to look with lust at a young woman… never to undress a girl with my eyes.” (NLT & MSG)

There are many things you are doing that you cannot afford. Many of us are indebted—financially, emotionally, and spiritually—because we are doing things we cannot afford to do. For instance, can you afford not to tithe? Pastor, I checked the bottom line, and I do not know where the tithe will come from. I really cannot afford to tithe. I ask again: can you really afford not to tithe? Take it from the Word of God; you cannot! Attraction is not a sin; action is! And you are not responsible for your attractions. You are responsible for your actions.

We are all attracted to different things. That is why two people can go for a buffet and while one person is filling his plate with barbequed ribs, stake, and pounded yam. The other person is taking salad, olives, pineapple, and apples. This actually happened to my friend and me. I was the one loading my plate with barbequed ribs and almost even asking for a second plate. And all he was taking was salad. I felt that he was wasting an opportunity to eat good food. Life is like a buffet; we are attracted to different things, yet everybody has an attraction. But guess what? Your attraction does not define you. The more you press into God, the less your ungodly attractions have any influence and power over you in the Name of Jesus.

You are not responsible for your attractions. You are responsible for your actions. David said in Psalm 51:5 “…in sin did my mother conceive me.” (KJV). In other words, David was saying, “I am wired in iniquity.” There are certain things that because of our wiring, we have different propensities. But guess what? Those propensities cannot and should not rule you. By the power of Christ, you have power over them. What I am saying is that you cannot control what gets your attention, but you can control what keeps your attention. I cannot control what gets my attention, but I can control what keeps my attention.

A lot of men have roving eyes, in the sense that when they see a beautiful lady, they cannot stop staring. Some women too have roving eyes; when they see a well-built, handsome man, they look once, but they are thinking about him ten times. The key thing is your attention may be gotten, but do not let it keep your attention. You can control what keeps my attention. You can train yourself, by the grace of God, not to lost after anyone. You can train yourself.

Prayer: Father, have mercy on me and help me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
