God’s Justice
2 Thessalonians 1:6-7 “God is just: He will pay back trouble to those who trouble you and give relief to you who are troubled, and to us as well…” (NIV)
God’s fourth guarantee for your future is huge, and it is To Repay Those Who Hurt You. God guarantees to deal with those who have dealt with you. Wow! I have studied this for, I could say decades. This concept of the judgment of those who hurt us. I have come to the conclusion that it is consistent with the Spirit of the New Testament. As we see the shadow in the Old Testament, God will repay everyone who hurts you. If you check, the world today is getting more and more hateful, mean, rude, uncivil, unjust, and disloyal. The truth is life is not fair; good people suffer.
Romans 12:19 “Dear friends, never avenge yourselves. Leave that to God, for he has said that he will repay those who deserve it…” (LB, emphasis added). How do you know those who deserve it? In several ways, he who repays evil for good is one. Mr. A has done good to Mr. B, but Mr. B repays Mr. A with evil. The Bible says evil will never depart from Mr, B’s house (Proverbs 17:13). God will supervise it. But you have a duty to leave it to God. Do not hold anyone in offense. It is painful and hurtful, but forgive and leave it to God. Let your heart be washed clean. God will supervise it so that every one of them will eat grass in the Name of Jesus.
The New International Version puts it this way: “…but leave room for God’s wrath…” (Romans 12:19). Most times, the problem is that we do not leave room for God. We occupy the room. God says get out of the way, leave the room, do not meddle, and do not play their game. Let God be God. When you get out of the way, God’s wrath is released. This also means that we sometimes delay the release of God’s wrath on our enemies. So, get out of the way and let God be God. God loves you, and sometimes love fights, love defends.
If you are out with someone, maybe a lady you love, and someone attacks her. What would you do? If you run away, that lady does not need a prophet to talk to her legs. Or maybe you were taking a walk and a stray dog tried to attack your girl. What do you do? Won’t you attack the dog? You say, “Pastor, we are afraid of dogs in my family. I cannot put myself in danger.” Listen, love fights, love defends. You can say life is not fair, and I agree. Life is not fair, but God is just.
Prayer: Father, contend with those who contend with me; fight against those who fight against me. Take up shield and armour; arise and come to my aid, in Jesus Name. Amen! (Psalm 35)
