Selection Game
Acts 6:2-4 “…We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. …select seven men …well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. … give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.”
My prayer for you, because the entrance of God’s Word brings light and understanding, is that God’s Word will light you and fill your understanding in the Name of Jesus. Over the next few days, we will be focusing on Alignment. If there is something that is constant when it comes to driving cars, it is that your wheels get out of alignment, so you need to go for realignment. In life generally, it is important that we understand the place and the role of alignment, and how to stay aligned. Otherwise, inevitably, we will get out of alignment.
When people get out of alignment with heaven, their destiny, and the purposes of God for their lives, they become disillusioned and discouraged. So, they begin to resort to the tools of men to carry out the agenda of heaven. And most times, they are frustrated. As a Pastor, I have had the honour of serving a lot of people. As I listen to them, sometimes my colleagues that are discouraged, I discovered that one of the most common causes of discouragement is misplaced priorities. It may sound easy to detect, but sometimes it is not so easy to detect. It may sound easy to get over, I mean just have your priorities straightened out, right? However, sometimes people do not even know what their priorities should be.
So, a lot of people major, put their focus and energy, on minors. And it often leads to discouragement. People waste their energy on secondary issues. The ultimate gets crowded out by the urgent, leading to fatigue and frustration. The things that are ultimate in our lives are at the mercy of the things that are urgent. You need to get to a point where the urgent things do not determine the course of your life. The truth is that, so much of what we spend our time on is not going to matter in ten years (a decade) from now. So, why are we spending so much time on what will not matter in a decade, or in fifty years, or in a hundred years?
As Christians, we often give first-class allegiance (commitment) to second-class issues (courses). We give first-class devotion to second-class things that are personal, cultural, social, or political. To be limitless, and to be all that God has created you to be, you must clarify what matters most in your life and give your life to it. Selection is the name of the game. You will always have options. What to and how to select is key, because you cannot do it all. God doesn’t expect you to do it all. And thirdly, there are only a few things worth doing at all.
Prayer: Father, by Your Spirit realign me to what You called me to be and do and give me the wisdom to select aright what only I must do, in Jesus Mighty Name. Amen!
