Heart Check XII

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise’ Ps.51:17 [KJV]

A Repentant heart. David had a repentant heart. Please read Psalm 51 it is a classic on repentance. Psalm 51 was written when David slept with Bathsheba [2Sam.11]. David was strolling on the rooftop when kings went to war. So David was at ease when he should be at war. And he mistakenly saw Bathsheba naked having her bath. If you mistakenly see something, shouldn’t you quickly escape? Many people erroneously think because they mistakenly fell into something or bumped into it then it is not their fault. It is your fault because you should run for your life. Your plan was to check your email but a page pops-up with adult content and a flashing sign ‘click here’. Your hands begin to shake, one voice says run – escape and another says click it – click it. The problem is not that you bumped into the site. The problem is that you clicked it. So David summoned Bathsheba, slept with her and she got pregnant. David tried to cover it up; life and death was in the hands of the king back then. So he sent for her husband and commanded him to go home. But Uriah said with a sense of duty, “How can I go home when Joab my master is in battle and the Ark of Covenant of the Lord is in battle, I cannot go home sir, I am sorry”. In other words, he was saying ‘if you want to kill me – kill me’. To say no to a king was asking for death. Still David invited him to dinner and ensured he got drunk. A drunk-man always knows his way home. He may pass through the gutter to get home but a drunk-man will always find his way home. David knew that. Uriah actually went home, got to the door of his house and sat down outside, he refused to go in. When David got the report, to David; Uriah had more or less chosen his own destiny. And David killed Uriah because he wanted to cover his sin. He forgot that to whom we have to do, everything is open – bare. Two Christians, an older man and a younger girl were going to fornicate. They met at a hotel, looked left and then right and went in. While they were undressing, the girl froze and said ‘we looked left and we looked right but we didn’t look up. God is looking at us’. And she ran away. Many of us, if we will just look up, we will be free of many things.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, let Your love constrain my every action and keep my heart tender before You, in Jesus Name.
