“Who do you think you are,
and what are you doing here,
building a beautiful tomb for yourself -
a monument high up in the rock? For the Lord is about to hurl you away, mighty man. He is going to grab you’ Isa.22:16-17.

While some people leave significant legacies, other people leave non-significant legacies. The people who leave non-significant legacies are so consumed with building structures and monuments. It is an insignificant legacy because someone else can just demolish it and we have seen this happen time and again. Saddam Hussein put up a monument and that monument was pulled down. People even try to embalm their Hero’s as a legacy. Sadly a lot of people are building non-significant legacies. How can you say it is the house that you have built that is your legacy? That is so myopic. Your children can sell that house in one-second and wipe off your name, i.e., if that is where you have put your name. I have friends that their father left estates for when we just left secondary school. They sold everything and today they’re in penury. The foolish man thought he was leaving a legacy.

‘During his lifetime, Absalom had built a monument to himself… for he said, “I have no son to carry on my name.” He named the monument after himself…’ 2Sam.18:18. Non-significant legacy. Erroneously, there are people who believe that not having a male child translates to not having a legacy. Something is wrong with that thinking. You need to read about the daughters of Zelophehad [Num.27:1-11], they singlehandedly changed history for generations [significant legacy]. In Christ there is neither male nor female. It is difficult for us to grapple but that is the truth. Some say if they don’t have children then they don’t have a legacy. Everybody will have children in Jesus Name but your children are not your legacy. However, what they become can be a part of your legacy. But they have their own legacies to build. For some this is coming as a shock yet it is truth you must embrace today. Your children will build their own legacies that will be greater than your legacy in Jesus name [Say amen]. This is the main source of control and manipulation that parents have in the Nigerian culture. They feel that their children are their legacy so they want to control their lives. Something is wrong with that. They are not your legacy; they are a heritage of the Lord. The word heritage there means gifts. They are for your temporal management.

Prayer: Father, I pray that mine and that of my children will not fall into the category of non-significant legacies, in Jesus Name.
