How To Be Rich
‘Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment’ 1Tim.6:17.
Over the next few weeks, we are going to be learning about How To Be Rich. Note, we are not learning how to get rich but rather we are learning about how to BE rich. This message was originally preached by Andy Stanley and then by Craig Groeschel. I find it very interesting and apt for where we are right now so we’re going to go learn how to Be rich together.
For a lot of us, the thought of XYZ projects, what we would like to undertake if only we were rich have crossed our minds. Some of us have also nursed the thought that these rich people spend money on stupid things but if it were me, I would do productive things with it. Especially in this day and age where most people are striving for more – a better job, a bigger house, a flashier car, a more beautiful wife, and the list goes on. You find a lot of people who have made it their life’s ambition to “Make It” regardless of how talented they are. And some have resolved to “Make It” by any means necessary. And that definitely cannot be God. Does God want you to be wealthy? Of course! Does God want you to be wealthy by any means? Of course not! So the question is when is one really rich? What is rich? If you ask someone that is earning say fifty thousand a month, what rich is? The person would probably say rich is earning three hundred thousand a month. If you ask someone that is earning three hundred thousand a month, he probably would say rich is earning a million a month. If you ask those that earn a million a month, they would probably say rich is earning five million a month. So it’s a moving goal post. When in our sojourn are we actually rich? ‘Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment’. 1Tim.6:17. When we come across such Scriptures our first reaction usually is “Yes, tell them”. But I’m announcing to you today that that them is YOU! Over the next few weeks by the grace of God, I’m going to show you that you are rich. But before that just say by faith, “I am rich”. So the Scripture is talking to you. The fact is you are rich. You need to know that there is someone somewhere hoping that they could just have what you have. That same thing that you wake up and grumble about, somebody is begging God for it daily.
Prayer: Father, please forgive my ingratitude. You have blessed me abundantly and I am deeply thankful for all that You have given me, in Jesus Name.
