Do Not Miss It!
“I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work” Jn.9:4
Yesterday, we began to look at the four enemies of exploitation and we learnt that the first one is Procrastination. And it dovetailed into us bringing three characteristics of opportunity into focus. We established that the first characteristic opportunity is that opportunities multiply as they are seized.
#2. Opportunities have expiry dates. Jesus said, “I must work the works of Him that sent me, while it is day: the night comes, when no man can work”. Not when no one will be unwilling to work, you may be willing to work but once it is night you cannot. You may have all the energy in the world but once the night comes, you cannot work. Every opportunity has a day time and a night time. If you do not move while it is day, once it is night the door is shut and once the door shuts, it shuts. Every opportunity has an expiry date.
#3. An opportunity missed can hurt you for a long time. This is beyond regret. Regret is the first point of hurt. But it is way beyond regret; it can really cause serious pains. Check out Abraham – he missed an opportunity to obey God. God says I will give you a son, your wife Sarah will give you a son. He did not exploit that instruction. Instead, he impregnated his house girl and she gave birth to Ishmael. The world has never remained the same since then. The seed of Abraham is still being tormented till today because of a missed opportunity for obedience.
Esau- same thing; he missed an opportunity just to retain his birthright. Many people are throwing their birthright out of the window because of an immediate pleasure. A lot of Christians think they can just repent and it will be fine. Do not get me wrong; I believe in repentance, I believe God forgives and He cleanses. But there are some things that you do that the scar stays with you for the rest of your life. In Hebrews, Scripture states that Esau sought repentance with tears, he wept but it was gone. Do not mortgage your destiny. Do not miss the opportunity for obedience.
Prayer: Father, I pray that I will not miss it. Please empower me with the speed, skill, strength, wisdom, and knowledge required to fully exploit each opening, in Jesus Name.
