Checks And Balances III
‘Better to have little, with fear for the Lord, than to have great treasures and inner turmoil’ Prov.15:16.
People who love and trust money have money in their hands but they don’t have peace in their hearts. If any of what we are studying in this season applies to you, then you have been deceived and you need to be delivered from that deception today. God is your source and He will provide for your needs. How do you know you don’t have peace? You know you don’t have peace when you consistently say, “If only I had Read the rest of this entry
God Confidence
‘David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him” 1 Sam.17:32 [NIV].
The conversation with Saul. The fourth conversation David had was with Saul. Saul sent for David, I am sure he was curious to find out who David was. And do you know the first thing David said when he got before Saul, David said Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine”. I just love David, don’t you? I mean this was the king of Israel; David was being introduced to the king, he didn’t fall on your face and Read the rest of this entry
Ignore and Speak
‘Now what have I done?” said David. “Can’t I even speak?” He then turned away to someone else and brought up the same matter, and the men answered him as before’ 1 Sam.17:29-30 [NIV].
Until David got up and left there was nothing like goliath, talk less of killing goliath – until David obeyed Jesse. The problem with a lot of us is that we are more educated that Jesse. Who is Jesse? After all when God came to anoint a king, He jumped even Jesse and anointed me. O big me! If David had not obeyed Jesse, David would have died an anointed shepherd boy. May you not die an anointed shepherd boy, in Read the rest of this entry
By Significance II
“Who do you think you are, and what are you doing here, building a beautiful tomb for yourself - a monument high up in the rock? For the Lord is about to hurl you away, mighty man. He is going to grab you’ Isa.22:16-17.
While some people leave significant legacies, other people leave non-significant legacies. The people who leave non-significant legacies are so consumed with building structures and monuments. It is an insignificant legacy because someone else can just demolish it and we have seen this happen time and again. Saddam Hussein put up a monument and that monument was pulled down. People even try to embalm their Hero’s as a legacy. Sadly a lot of people are Read the rest of this entry
By Significance I
‘Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God’ Eph.4:1
You need to keep the big picture in front of you. Survival is about what you can get, success on the other hand is about what you have gotten, and significance is about what you have given. What are you giving? Survival is about staying alive, survival of the fittest. Some story reads, “When the gazelle wakes up and the lion wakes up, the gazelle knows that he must run faster than the fastest lion. The gazelle knows that if he doesn’t run faster than the fastest lion he is dead. Read the rest of this entry
Next Door
David asked the soldiers standing nearby, “What will a man get for killing this Philistine and ending his defiance of Israel? Who is this pagan Philistine anyway, that he is allowed to defy the armies if the living God?” 1Sam.17:26.
‘But when David’s oldest brother Eliab, heard David talking to the men, he was angry. “What are you doing around here anyway?” he demanded. “What about those few sheep you’re supposed to be taking care of? I know about your pride and deceit. You just want to see the battle!”’ 1Sam.17:28. I was fresh out of school and had just finished the National Youth Service Corps service year. And I wanted to do an I.T. certification MCSC. This Read the rest of this entry
Heart Check X
‘ “The Lord forbid that I should drink this!” he exclaimed. “This water is as precious as the blood of these men who risked their lives to bring it to me.” So David did not drink it…’ 2 Sam.23:17.
Harvest is more than seed. David had a loyal heart. David also had loyal men added to him. One of such men was Eleazer the son of Dodo. At some point Israel was in a battle so fierce and the Philistines so powerful that the whole battalion of Israel ran away leaving only David and Eleazer. And David and Eleazer stood back to back. Eleazer son of Dodo killed eight hundred men with his sword. By the time they finished fighting, his hand was stuck to the sword. Read the rest of this entry
What’s Your Excuse?
‘Don’t excuse yourself by saying, “Look, we didn’t know.” For God understands all hearts, and he sees you. He who guards your soul knows you knew. He will repay all people as their actions deserve’ Prov.24:12
David survived all the pressures of life because of his heart. David was sidelined, his own father, Jesse, and his brothers relegated him to the wilderness, David got a prize for killing goliath, the first daughter of Saul the king, but Saul gave his wife to somebody else. Imagine you have paid the bride price for your wife and then you go there to pick up your bride with your friends and find out that she has been given to someone else. But through all of this, David Read the rest of this entry
My Shepherd
‘Then Samuel asked, “Are these all the sons you have?” “There is still the youngest,” Jesse replied. “But he’s out in the fields watching the sheep and goats.” “Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives’ 1Sam.16:11.
How well can you handle rejection? How well you can handle the rejection of men determines how far you will go. Let me explain. Where was David’s mother while all this drama was going on? If the number one prophet requests that all your sons be brought before him and the father forgets, will the mother also forget? Where was David’s mother? One school of thought says David’s mother was an African woman that Jesse had an affair and that was Read the rest of this entry
In Comes David…
‘So Jesse sent for him. He was dark and handsome, with beautiful eyes. And the Lord said, “This is the one; anoint him.” 1 Sam.16:12
The drama in David’s life continues, Samuel said, ‘Send for him at once,” Samuel said. “We will not sit down to eat until he arrives.” ‘When he arrived at Bethlehem, the elders of the town came trembling to meet him. “What’s wrong?” they asked. “Do you come in peace?” “Yes,” Samuel replied’ 1 Sam.16:4-5. You need to understand this, for Samuel to come into a city unannounced and the elders were terrified. Now for that Samuel to say no one, including Read the rest of this entry
