Deep vs. Shallow

Matthew 7:24-25 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won’t collapse because it is built on bedrock.”

We will kick off today’s devotional with our final thought from yesterday. The shelf life of God’s Word must be sustained in our lives. I got the term shelf life from the grocery store. Read the rest of this entry

Open Up!

Luke 15:11-13 “…A man had two sons. The younger son told his father, ‘I want my share of your estate now before you die.’ So his father agreed to divide his wealth between his sons. … younger son …moved to a distant land, and there he wasted all his money in wild living.”

In Luke 15:11-32 (please read), Jesus tells us the story of the prodigal son. This boy asks for his inheritance while his father is still alive and then lavishes everything on wild living. Read the rest of this entry

Grace Elect

Romans 6:15-16 “Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not! Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin… or you can choose to obey God…”

Isaiah 30:18For this reason the Lord is still waiting to show his favour to you so he can show you his marvellous love. He waits to be gracious to you. He sits on his throne ready to show mercy to you. For Yahweh is the Lord of justice, faithful to keep his promises.

New Beginning

Matthew 28:5-6 “…the angel said to them, ‘There’s no reason to be afraid. I know you’re here looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn’t here—he has risen victoriously, just as he said! Come inside the tomb and see the place where our Lord was lying.” (TPT, emphasis added).

And because Jesus is alive, we can be bold enough to know that tomorrow will be alright. As we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus, it is important to reflect on the fact that Jesus is King! Jesus is Lord! Jesus is Alive! Read the rest of this entry

Take Me

Matthew 11:28-29 “Come to me all of you who are tired from the heavy burden you have been forced to carry. I will give you rest. Accept my teaching. Learn from me. I am gentle and humble in spirit. And you will be able to get some rest.” (ERV, emphasis added).
