Guard Against I
‘This was the last thing the official expected to hear. He was very rich and became terribly sad. He was holding on tight to a lot of things and not about to let them go’ Luke 18:23 [MSG]
From the story of the rich man it is clear to see that being rich comes with certain problems we must be aware of and guard against. When you are rich, it is harder for you to depend on God and that’s the truth. If you don’t believe me or you are saying that is not possible, it is because you’ve not tasted real money. But you will not only taste, you will own real money. And this is why I am cautioning you in advance. I Read the rest of this entry
A Question Of Ownership
‘When Jesus saw this, he said, “How hard it is for the rich to enter the Kingdom of God! In fact, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the Kingdom of God!”’ Luke 18:24-25
You are looking very rich this morning. If after reading this first sentence, your thoughts immediately went to the state of your finances, then it means you still have not embraced the fact that you are rich. So again I say you are looking very rich today. Now accept it – accept it. This is not a prosperity teaching; this is the word of God. If this message infuriates you in anyway then perhaps you want to welcome the Read the rest of this entry
Covenant Right
‘Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, because he has defied the armies of the Living God” 1Sam.17:36 [NIV]
David in his conversation with Saul did another remarkable thing. He moved the conversation and made it a covenant issue. David said, “Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the Living God?” 1Sam.17:26. Let’s stop for a moment and look deeper at what David was referring to by using the word “uncircumcised”. The token of the covenant between God and His people is circumcision. ‘This is the covenant that you and your descendants must keep: Each male among you must be circumcised. You must cut off the flesh of your foreskin as a sign of the covenant between me and you’ Gen.17:10-11 [Please read the entire Genesis 17]. What David was saying in essence is that goliath does not have a covenant with God. All the other Jews, the Israelites that were running and hiding, didn’t they have the same covenant? They all did but David was activating his own covenant. The covenant is useless if it is not activated.
If you are a Christian, everything Jesus did on the cross is available for you and it is available now not tomorrow. But if you don’t activate the covenant it remains useless. To David conquering goliath was a covenant issue. He said this man is not circumcised and because he is not circumcised, he is not under the covenant. And because he is not under the covenant, he is inferior to us. Let me bring it home, you are bidding for a job and someone that is not saved is bidding for the same job and it is a job you should have. Who should get it? One of the keys to getting it is you need to go to God and activate your covenant. This is an uncircumcised person, I am a covenant child and this belongs to me. It belongs to Your Kingdom and fight for it from that perspective. So it is very risky to be living life not being saved – very risky. Which is why if you are not born again, today is a good time to get born again, or you the may become a causality of many things. The devil gets angry and he slaps you. You cannot challenge him because if you do, he can increase your punishment. You cannot call on God because you don’t have access. I mean you are just in a mess. But the Name of the Lord is a strong tower and if you will run into it, you will be safe.
Prayer [song]: You are my strength when I am weak. You are the treasure that I seek. You are my all in all. Seeking you as a precious jewel. Lord, to give up I’d be a fool. You are my all in all. Jesus, Lamb of God worthy is Your Name (2x).
God Confidence
‘David said to Saul, “Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine; your servant will go and fight him” 1 Sam.17:32 [NIV].
The conversation with Saul. The fourth conversation David had was with Saul. Saul sent for David, I am sure he was curious to find out who David was. And do you know the first thing David said when he got before Saul, David said Let no one lose heart on account of this Philistine”. I just love David, don’t you? I mean this was the king of Israel; David was being introduced to the king, he didn’t fall on your face and Read the rest of this entry
Just Do It!
‘His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it” John 2:5 [NKJV]
In John 2 there is an amazing story where Jesus and His mother were at a wedding in Cana of Galilee. If you have been in church for a while, you would know this story. The celebrants ran out of wine and something very interesting happened. The mother of Jesus said to Him, “They have no more wine, fix it” [translated]. Jesus said, “woman what is my business with that” [translated]. Then Jesus’ mother Read the rest of this entry
He Is Lord!
‘That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father’ Phil.2:10-11 [KJV]
The fifth thing you must remember is the supremacy of Jesus. In fact we must never forget this. There are a lot of religions in the world, a lot of ‘masters’ and ‘prophets’ so to speak. But Jesus is superior to them all. Jesus single handedly stands in between history and the future. Everything that happened before Him is B.C and everything that happened after Him is A.D. He is the most important person in Read the rest of this entry
As A Father
“Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” Luke 11:11-13 [NIV].
Secondly, Jesus wants us to approach God as a father. ‘…how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!” God is saying not only will I answer but we can be sure of the quality of His answer. As a parent, will you give your child a snake instead of the fish he asked you for? It will not even cross Read the rest of this entry
Not Without Gratitude
‘Enter his gates with thanksgiving; go into his courts with praise. Give thanks to him and praise his name. For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation’ Ps.100:4-5
The third thing you need to know about gratitude is you cannot be all you are made to be without being grateful. In other words, you cannot fulfill your destiny if you are not grateful. Gratitude is very important because it is your environment that determines what grows and what dies in you. If you put a grain of corn on top of your fridge and you check years after, it will still be a grain of corn. But if you put that same grain of corn in fertile Read the rest of this entry
Verbalize Gratitude
‘Shout with joy to the Lord, all the earth! Worship the Lord with gladness. Come before him, singing with joy’ Ps.100:1-2.
The second thing we need to know about gratitude is that silent gratitude is of no value to anybody. In fact, silent gratitude is ingratitude. Verbalize your gratitude. A mother needed to teach her son a vital lesson in gratitude. After every meal she would say to him, “You have not said thank you”. The mother wanted her son to always say “Thank you” when he eats so that he doesn’t take things for granted. And the boy would say, “Why Read the rest of this entry
Acknowledge IV
‘For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and his faithfulness continues to each generation’ Ps.100:5
The fourth thing that you and I must acknowledge is that He is good. This is very profound. You can own something and be mean to that thing. But God is not mean. God is good. Say it out loud – God is good all the time. The Lord is good. So you and I can approach God knowing that we are approaching a good God. We can come to God knowing that we are coming into the presence of a good God that made us and owns us, and He is God. Read the rest of this entry
