Heart Check VII
‘Then David accepted her present and told her, “Return home in peace. I have heard what you said. We will not kill your husband.” 1 Sam.25:35
A lot of people vow or make decision to do the wrong thing. Then God in His mercy sends them an Abigail but they will insist on following through with the decision they have made because of pride even to the detriment of their souls.
When I read the story in 1 Samuel 25, I was saying to God that Abigail is not loyal to her husband. How can she say ‘I know Nabal is a wicked and ill-tempered man; please don’t pay any attention to him. He is a fool, just as his name suggests. But I never even saw the young men you sent’ 1Sam.25:25. Or does it not come across as that? But I understood that she was actually saving his life. What loyalty can be greater than that? But she was saying the truth also. Some women are so foolish, truth is stirring them in the face but they refuse to see the truth. Abigail was not just saying those things to flatter David; she believed so much in what she was saying. And Abigail said ‘And when the Lord has done these great things for you, please remember me, your servant!’ 1 Sam.25:31. David must have laughed and left. Abigail got home, Nabal was throwing a party, drinking himself to stupor and she left him. In the morning when the effect of the alcohol had worn off, Abigail told Nabal what David was going to do to him and Nabal had a heart attack just from hearing that David was coming for him. Ten days later, the Bible says that God smote Nabal and he died. Read the rest of this entry
Comfort Is Here!
‘So you have sorrow now, but I will see you again; then you will rejoice, and no one can rob you of that joy’ John 16:22
No one grieves without reason; everybody grieves for a reason. If you see anyone grieving without a reason then something is wrong. But beyond that, why exactly do people grieve? The first reason why people grieve is mainly because of a loss. The second reason why we grieve is for our sins and for the sins of other people. Isaiah was one prophet who went around declaring woe to everyone. But when God opened his eyes and he saw himself for the way he really was, that same Isaiah declared ‘woe is me for I Read the rest of this entry
Acts Of Mercy II
‘And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’ Matt.25:40
It is the hand that gives that receives. It is the person that is merciful that obtains mercy. We are the church, the church doesn’t exist for us, rather, we exist for the world. You need to get it into your psyche that the church doesn’t exist for you but rather you are the church and you exist for the world. So lend yourself to acts of mercy. There is no way you will give towards building churches and reaching people who would never have heard the Read the rest of this entry
Acts Of Mercy I
‘For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home’ Matt.25:35.
Jesus was tempted in every way but without sin. There is no temptation that you are going through right now that Jesus has not experienced in one form or the other. When I read this scripture a long time ago, I said to myself that it is not possible because I did not think Jesus would have experienced what I was experiencing. But the truth is that if the Bible says that Jesus was tempted in every way then He was tempted in everyway. Jesus was 100 percent Read the rest of this entry
Lend Yourself
‘Therefore, it was necessary for him to be made in every respect like us, his brothers and sisters, so that he could be our merciful and faithful High Priest before God. Then he could offer a sacrifice that would take away the sins of the people’ Heb.2:17.
Just like Jesus did with us, God expects us to be merciful and share people’s burdens. Some people’s reaction to other people’s pain is what is the big deal? Listen you do not need to know what it is physically to have nothing for you to be merciful to those who are going through the pain of having nothing. And by God’s grace there is no time in your life that you will experience having nothing. For many of us, all you are required to do in showing mercy is Read the rest of this entry
Mercy vs. Pity
‘Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need’ Prov.21:13.
How do you know if someone is a Christian? It is simple; ask their domestic staff or people that live with them. If the people that you have authority over do not feel mercy flow from you, then there is something wrong with that. You need to change because blessed are the merciful for they will obtain mercy. God wants you to be blessed because you are His child so it is a contradiction if you are not blessed. ‘Whoever shuts his ears to the cry of the Read the rest of this entry
Offering Compassion
‘There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others but if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you’ James 2:13.
Unfortunately, some people think that the mercy of God is a license for sin. The truth is when you truly experience the mercy of God you would not want to touch sin again. God said to Moses, ‘if you are to describe me then say I am the Lord compassionate, merciful, slow to anger, plenteous in mercy, I will not always chide neither will I keep my anger for ever’. God wants to be known as merciful. The problem with us is if God that has every right to judge Read the rest of this entry
Obtaining Mercy
‘So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most’ Heb.4:16
It is because God is merciful that is why He extends this invitation to you and I. If God were to mark iniquity who can stand? But because there is forgiveness with God therefore we fear Him. God wants you to know Him as a merciful God. For some of us because of the things we have done we think that God cannot even begin to forgive us. For others, they cannot come to terms with God’s mercy because how can God forgive a murderer? I have good Read the rest of this entry
Reaping Compassion
‘The Lord replied, “I will make all my goodness pass before you, and I will call out my name, Yahweh, before you. For I will show mercy to anyone I choose, and I will show compassion to anyone I choose’ Ex.33:19
I need the mercy of God and I am sure you do too. For many of us the only thing that can get us out of the situation we are in right now is if God will have mercy. People may be ridiculing you for not knowing how to seek God but you know you have prayed and fasted and it has nothing to do with that. It is only the mercy of God that can bring you out of that situation and God will have mercy on you today in Jesus Name. God is saying you need to be Read the rest of this entry
Display Mercy
‘Shouldn’t you have mercy on your fellow servant, just as I had mercy on you?’ Matt.18:33.
There was a king in a far away country that had several subjects. Mufu was one of the king’s subjects, a successful businessman with a lot of business ideas. Mufu needed to borrow money to fund some of his ideas. The king out of generosity allowed Mufu to borrow money from the treasury. Over time Mufu borrowed several millions from the king. Mufu had a friend Kofi, and while Mufu was borrowing from the king, Kofi was borrowing from Mufu. Mufu Read the rest of this entry
