Stay With God
“O Israel, can I not do to you as this potter has done to his clay? As the clay is in the potter’s hand, so are you in my hand.’ Jer.18:6.
Today, we will continue in the discourse about the signs of hardness of heart. You know your heart is hard when your praise and worship is no longer by the tenderness of your heart towards God but rather it is about the adoration of men as you pretend to worship God. A typical example would be waiting till midnight when you know the neighborhood is quiet not to be with God but to sing loud enough for everyone to hear you and know that you are spiritual. It is when we would never have Read the rest of this entry
In Perspective
‘But the people replied, “Don’t waste your breath. We will continue to live as we want to, stubbornly following our own evil desires’ Jer.18:12.
In today’s scripture reference, these people had made up their minds that they will be hardened clay. Have you ever seen or heard of a potter work with hardened clay [set clay]? It is not possible. The potter will have to break the piece to work with it. It is like someone who says, ‘I am an adult, I can make up my own mind, what I want to do is what I want to do. Nobody should tell me what to do. I am not a baby. I am a full-grown man/woman’. Yes we know that; but that means you are not a Read the rest of this entry
Experience Jesus
‘…And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age’ Matt.28:20.
People usually have three reasons why they feel they cannot evangelize. The first reason is ‘I don’t know enough scripture’. The answer to that is what set the early church apart. It is not about the amount of scripture that you know but rather it is about the person of Jesus that you know. The people in the early church didn’t have Bibles like we do; they just had parchment of the Old Read the rest of this entry
Unique Presence
‘Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age” Matt.28:20
Jesus is the foundation of the entity called the church. The original Greek word translated church is the word ‘Ekklesia’. Please follow me carefully; I would not throw a Greek word at you if it is not significant. The word ekklesia simply means a gathering or an assembly of people summoned [called out] for a particular purpose. For instance, citizens called out and gathered together for Read the rest of this entry
The Set Time!
‘Dear woman, that’s not our problem, Jesus replied. My time has not yet come’ John 2:4
The fourth thing you need to know when the day breaks is that it means the set time has come. Let’s assume you wake up at 6am and you set your alarm clock accordingly. When you hear the alarm go off, it means it is daybreak and the set time has come. In the days of old when there were no alarm clocks, the roosters were responsible for announcing daybreak. And as children, when we play games, the cockcrow was the signal for Read the rest of this entry
Count The Cost?
‘We must not be like Cain, who belonged to the evil one and killed his brother. And why did he kill him? Because Cain had been doing what was evil, and his brother had been doing what was righteous’ 1 John.3:12.
It was not just about the offering, it was about the behavioral pattern of Cain. God must be honored. You cannot dishonor God in your day-to-day life and expect that you will play to the gallery and God will be impressed. God will not be impressed because your daily decisions may be personal but they are never private. In fact, they will eventually become public one day. You may think that it is personal but guess what, it is not really private. Look at the fig tree; it was boisterous with leaves, putting up a show. Jesus moved closer Read the rest of this entry
God’s Dealings
‘Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna… He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord’ Deut.8:3.
The second way we get hungry and thirsty for God is through God’s dealings. God deals with us to create a hunger in us for Him and through that hunger we can know Him. ‘He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord’. God sometimes takes us through difficult periods for us to realize our hunger for what He has to say. Yet some of us are not sensitive enough and Read the rest of this entry
Hunger Equals Filling
‘As the deer pants for streams of water, so my soul pants for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? Ps.42:1-2 [NIV]
Everyone is longing for something. Some people are just longing to be recognized. But except you enter God’s presence with the longing for God you will not be filled. Perhaps you have entered His presence with the wrong longing but in the process of praise and worship God helps you to substitute that longing with the longing for Him, that is the only time you can be filled. David puts it this way ‘as the deer longs for streams of water, so I Read the rest of this entry
Living Waters
‘Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled’ Matt.5:6 [NIV].
The Word of God says, ‘the blessings of the Lord makes rich and adds no sorrow’. But the world is trying to turn it around to read ‘the riches of the world makes blessed and add no sorrow’. Jesus is saying to us that blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness for they will be filled. You may be reading this today and your soul is hungry and your heart is thirsty and you feel this seemingly insatiable longing for something. The feeling is just there and it is constantly nagging. Sometimes when we encounter Read the rest of this entry
Costly Reward
‘In fact, everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted’ 2 Tim.3:12.
With the beatitudes, Jesus strikes down two major monsters in our Christian walk. The first monster Jesus struck down is the monster that says you can be saved without being changed. Jesus is saying the power to save you can and will change you. The second monster that Jesus struck down is the monster that ties materialism to blessedness. Jesus never said blessed are they that own mansions in the choicest parts of town for they shall be Read the rest of this entry
