Find Rest…

Job 34:29 [MSG] “If God is silent, what’s that to you? If He turns His face away, what can you do about it? But whether silent or hidden, He’s there, ruling,”

It can be really uncomfortable when God is silent. However, it is important that we examine our own lives to ensure we have not done anything that offends Him [Ps.139.24]. When you submit your heart to the Holy Spirit as Psalm 139:23-24 directs, He will set you straight if there is anything that offends Him. However, if you check your life and God is not upset with you but just silent, these two things will help you deal with God’s silence.

Firstly, remember that God Is In Control. …whether silent or hidden, He’s there, ruling. What Job is drawing our attention to in essence, is that God is not talkative and God does not exist to serve you. So if God is silent, be comforted with the fact that whether He is silent or hidden, He is there ruling.

Keep your conversation with the Lord going. Many times in the Book of Psalms, David would say to the Lord, “Do not be silent, O Lord…”, and usually at such times, David’s enemies were hot on his heels or David was in great distress. The fact that things are about to explode in your face or your walls are about to cave in, does not change the fact that God is God. David must have known Job 34:29 and comforted himself with it. Regardless of whether God is silent or hidden, God is God and He rules in the affairs of men. Amazing!

Secondly, you must Trust God. Trust Him because you know He is there [for you and with you] and He is ruling. God is saying to you and to me today, “I want you to trust Me in your times of trouble, so I can rescue you and you can give Me glory.” Psalm 50:14 [LB]. The three Hebrew boys were faced with a death sentence because they had taken a stand for God. Maybe from the moment they were seized and dragged to the king, they were praying, but God was silent. Maybe God was saying, choose this day whom ye will serve. And as God watched, the fruit of their walk with Him showed in the quality of their decision but God chose to remain silent. Maybe they also were familiar with Job 34:29 and that was what informed their response to king Nebuchadnezzar [Please read Daniel 3]. God is in control; will you trust Him?

Prayer [song]: All heavens declare the glory of the risen Lamb. Who can compare to the beauty of the Lord. Forever You will be, the Lamb upon the throne. I gladly bow my knees to worship You alone. Amen!
