High Priority
Leviticus 26:4 “I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.” (NRSV)
Yesterday we began to look at the significance of rain and that is where we will pick up today’s devotional from. Rain causes a harvest. Rain refreshes. Rain signifies a change in season. One huge importance of rain is a leveller. Rain does not respect anybody, the same rain that falls on the rich will fall on the poor. Rain does not discriminate. One thing that stands out is this, rain can actually stop you, it is not a respecter of king or pauper. This person Elijah was talking to was a king and he told him to run otherwise this rain will stop him. In other words, this rain does not care whether you are a king or not. The blessing of God, the rain of God is going to fall upon you but you have to be positioned, you have to be ready.
1Kings 18:44 “…Then Elijah shouted, “Hurry to Ahab and tell him, ‘Climb into your chariot and go back home. If you don’t hurry, the rain will stop you!’” (emphasis added). I pray that God will give you the chariots required in the Name of Jesus. I am praying that you will hurry, that you will sense the urgency in the spirit even at this time. Two things from this and the first is there is Urgency. Hurry! The Voice puts it this way, (Voice) “…Prepare your chariot, and leave quickly before the rain gets torrential and keeps you from traveling.” (emphasis added). The rain can actually limit your movement; therefore you need to hurry. It is urgent, it takes priority and requires immediate attention.
There are things with God that are urgent. If you are sensitive, there are things in your life that you know there is an urgent demand for. There is an urgency for salvation 2 Cor.6:2 “For God says, “At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.” Indeed, the “right time” is now. Today is the day of salvation.” When should you get saved if you are not saved? Today, there is an urgency. God is saying you should give your life to Jesus, when? Not in one week, not in two weeks, but do it today. There is an urgency of salvation, there is also an urgency of sonship. 1John 3:2 “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.” (KJV). Why is this urgent? It is because people are not walking in their sonship.
We are sons of God now, not when we get to heaven, and the urgency is so potent that God expects that we actually hurry. David shows us a key principle when you are assigned a task from a king in 1Kings 21:8b “…because the king’s business required haste.” (emphasis added). Who sent you determines the priority of the message. You are playing your game and your parent asks you to get something from the car. The king’s business requires urgency. What you do is drop your game and go get it immediately.
Prayer: Father, help me to give priority to all You have committed to me, in Jesus Name. Amen!
