John 16:7 “But in fact, it is best for you that I go away, because if I don’t, the Advocate won’t come. If I do go away, then I will send him to you.”
Why would Jesus say it is best for us that He goes away? Is the Holy Spirit better than Jesus? Jesus is the best guide you can ever have; the Apostles had Jesus and when they have any questions, they go to Jesus, and He will explain things to them. Read the rest of this entry
Choose Life
Psalm 119:29-30 “Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law. I have chosen the way of faithfulness; I have set my heart on your laws.”
Deuteronomy 30:17-19 “But if you disobey and refuse to listen, and are led away to worship other gods, you will be destroyed. You will not live long in that land across the Jordan that you are about to occupy. I am now giving you the choice between life and death, between God’s blessing or curse, and I call heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Choose life!” (TEV, emphasis added). Heavenly Cover
Ps.91:3-4 “For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease. He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armour and protection.”
When the heavens open, you have clear communication, angels work for you, and you have the different dynamics and different sides of rainfall. Fourthly, you have Protection. Why? It is because open heavens attract attacks. Open heavens can be individualized; Read the rest of this entry
God Can!
2 Kings 7:6-7 “For the Lord had caused the Aramean army to hear the clatter of speeding chariots and the galloping of horses and the sounds of a great army approaching… they panicked and ran into the night, abandoning their tents, horses, donkeys… as they fled for their lives”
As heavens open over us, first, expect Clear Communication With Heaven. Second, expect Angels Will Work For You. Third, expect Rainfall. Rainfall is so huge, when the heavens open there is abundance. God sometimes scares the enemy in an intimidating, dramatic way. Read the rest of this entry
Secrets, III
Isaiah 22:22 “I will give him the key to the house of David—the highest position in the royal court. When he opens doors, no one will be able to close them; when he closes doors, no one will be able to open them.”
When the heavens open, the first thing to expect is Clear Communication With Heaven. The second thing to expect is Angels Will Work For You. Gen.28:12 “And he dreamed, and behold a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven: and behold the angels of God ascending and descending on it.” (KJV, emphasis added). At Midnight
Ex. 12:29 “And that night at midnight, the Lord struck down all the firstborn sons in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sat on his throne, to the firstborn son of the prisoner in the dungeon. Even the firstborn of their livestock were killed.”
Our first lesson from Elijah regarding opening heavens is the willingness to do what is required, irrespective of the excuses not to. Our second lesson is Elijah’s power came from God in response to Elijah’s prayer. Our third lesson is everything that is visible and physical, Read the rest of this entry
Call & Response
Isaiah 62:6-7 “I’ve posted watchmen on your walls, Jerusalem. Day and night they keep at it, praying, calling out, reminding God to remember. They are to give him no peace until he does what he said, until he makes Jerusalem famous as the City of Praise.” (MSG)
Our first lesson from Elijah regarding opening up heavens is the willingness to do what is required, irrespective of the excuses not to. Our second lesson is Elijah’s power came from God in response to Elijah’s prayer. Yes, you need to pray earnestly and do what is required. Read the rest of this entry
Ready. Set. Pray.
1 Kings 18:36-37 “…Elijah …prayed, “O Lord, God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, prove today that you are God in Israel and that I am your servant. Prove that I have done all this at your command. O Lord, answer me! …so these people will know that you, O Lord, are God…”
Elijah’s first prayer was not recorded, it was only the second prayer that was recorded. But James 5 tells us how he prayed the first prayer and 1Kings 18 showed us how he prayed the second prayer. So, if you combine the two, we can see how he prayed both prayers. Read the rest of this entry
Take A Stand
James 5:17-18 “Elijah was as human as we are, and yet when he prayed earnestly that no rain would fall, none fell for three and a half years! Then, when he prayed again, the sky sent down rain and the earth began to yield its crops.”
Up until this point of his introduction, Elijah was an unknown prophet until in 1 Kings 17:1 “And Elijah the Tishbite, who was of the inhabitants of Gilead, said unto Ahab, As the Lord God of Israel liveth, before whom I stand, there shall not be dew nor rain these years, but according to my word.” (KJV). Leviticus 26:4 “I will give you your rains in their season, and the land shall yield its produce, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.” (NRSV)
Yesterday we began to look at the significance of rain and that is where we will pick up today’s devotional from. Rain causes a harvest. Rain refreshes. Rain signifies a change in season. One huge importance of rain is a leveller. Read the rest of this entry
