Familiarity with God

Peter exclaimed, ‘Lord, it’s wonderful for us to be here! If You want, I’ll make three shelters as memorials – one for You, one for Moses and one for Elijah’. Matt.17:4

Familiarity they say breeds contempt. Never, ever, ever get too familiar with God or with His Word. All that you have and will ever have are gifts from God alone [John 3:17]. God is our Father, He calls us friend, nothing can separate us from His love, and He wants to talk to us. However, He is the Lord of the angel armies, the One who laid the foundations of the Heavens and the earth. Getting familiar with God and taking His provision [mercies] for granted is dangerous. He reminded me one morning that the things I took for granted were luxuries to other people. I walked into service that day and the heat that greeted me in the hall got me very upset. And God reminded me that there are people who are having service under the hot sun with flies disturbing them and they are worshiping still. Someone told me of how he saw a man who had two masters degrees walking on the street with worn out shoes and without job. Ladies take it for granted that because they have been pronounced fertile translates to them having children. Maybe God is saying something here, are you relying on your own ability or God’s? Having children, a job, cars, a good house, clothes or food did not happen by your intelligence or because you have worked hard for it. Don’t look down on others because you are seemingly better placed [Prov.16:1]. Remember, never take God or His Word for granted.

Prayer: Father, help me not to get too familiar with You to the point that I take You for granted. I pray that Your Word will be new to me every day. I choose to draw close to You, to love You and not take Your works and goodness in my life for granted. Help me Lord to walk closely, with You without being too familiar with You. In Jesus name. Amen!
