The Power I

For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children Rom.8:16.

We know that the promised Holy Spirit is with us. But what is He supposed to do really? ‘But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earthActs 1:8. What this means is no Holy Spirit no power. To operate as a Christian you need power. The Holy Spirit gives us that power. You can have a form of godliness but without the presence of the Holy Spirit there will be no power. It is like a house that has all the electrical fittings but without power [electricity] from the source the house will not come alive. Similarly, we can have every aspect of the worship experience figured out, the equipment’s in place, a building filled with people, and the whole setting can be perfect. But if the presence of the Holy Spirit is not there, there will be no life. When the Holy Spirit manifests there normally is a certain kind of excitement usually expressed in an outburst of tongues. Over the next few days we will be focusing on the things that the Holy Spirit gives us power to do.

Firstly, the Holy Spirit gives us the power of Salvation: ‘Jesus replied, “I assure you, no one can enter the Kingdom of God without being born of water and the Spirit. Humans can reproduce only human life, but the Holy Spirit gives birth to spiritual lifeJohn 3:5-6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. ‘For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children’ [Rom.8:16]. If you have any doubt that you are a child of God, I am praying today that the Holy Spirit will give you the power of salvation.

Secondly, the Holy Spirit gives us power to walk in God’s will: The Holy Spirit will reveal the heart of the Father to you. ‘But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told youJohn 14:26. ‘When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own but will tell you what he has heard. He will tell you about the futureJohn 16:13.

Prayer[song]: Holy Spirit Thou art welcome in this place. Holy Spirit Thou art welcome in this place. Omnipotent Father of Mercy and Grace. Thou art welcome in this place. Amen!
