The Power IV

‘The love of God is shed abroad our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us’ Rom.5:5[KJV].

It is the Holy Spirit that empowers us to love and forgive. Some one has hurt you very deeply perhaps a parent, spouse, siblings, or colleague. The only person that can make you forgive is the Holy Spirit. ‘If someone says, I love God, but hates a Christian brother or sister, that person is a liar; for if we don’t love people we can see, how can we love God, whom we cannot see?1 John 4:20. If you don’t love the people you can see, how can you love the person you cannot see? The person that would know if you have the power of the Holy Spirit to love, if you are married, is your spouse otherwise it would be the people who are closest to you. Does your spouse feel loved? If your spouse does not feel loved, you need to unlock that portion of yourself to the Holy Spirit. Why don’t you take this risk and ask your spouse if he/she feels loved. Please have the discussion at home today. Just ask ‘do you feel loved?’ I want to challenge you, if they don’t then make it your priority. Your number one objective in life is to make your spouse feel loved. Make it your job to make them feel loved because if they don’t then you have failed. If my wife does not feel loved then I have failed and I should take responsibility for it. What I learnt over the years, those years that my wife didn’t feel loved, I was actually loving her the way I wanted to love her. Lets say I like mangos and my wife likes oranges, she does not like mangos. But guess what I would buy – mangos. And I would say take this as a token of my love. But because she is nice, she would accept it. But does she feel loved? And I keep buying mangos. Then after a while I squared my shoulder and said to her ‘Baby do you feel loved?’ She just said ‘no’. It was a huge blow on me because I thought I was trying my best. So I asked her what exactly loving her would mean. It was then that I began to understand that the things that did not mean anything to me meant the world to her. I learnt that it wasn’t about me but about her. The One that gives us the power to actually show love as we ought to is the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord, give me the power to show love as I ought to. The power to be humble enough to love people as they want and not as I think I should, in Jesus Name.
